Esee 5 or BK2?

Good to see you got to look at the knives before you bought. I was going to suggest the ESEE 4 or Laser Strike.
It seems ESEE is changing over to molded plastic for their 4 sheaths. They used to be Kydex. My 4 is Kydex as is my Laser Strike. But my 4 is actually an RC-4 model before they changed their name to ESEE.
I do dig that color combo. You sure won't loose that one easily in the bush.
You enjoy that new blade!

Congrats on making an informed and wise purchase. I love the Esee line, and they have a great warranty too! I got the Esee 6, put some LMF aftermarket scales on it and wow! Its one of my two favorite knives. I usually pair this with a Condor Kephart, but if I could only bring one knife, it would be the 6. Great choice and enjoy your new blade!

Congrats on the purchase. Seems you got a chance to make a well-informed, hands-on choice.

I wouldn't worry about it rusting too much. If you completely submerge it, or get it gunky with 'whatever', it would be good idea to periodically remove the scales and clean and oil, especially the screw threads.

Any rust that does start, can easily be removed with a Scotchbrite pad or 400 grit sandpaper.

But even ignored, it would take years (decades?) before the 3/16" blade would be rendered unusable.

While I was there I checked out all kinds of stuff. I handled most of the Beckers, the LMF II, the Schrade SCHF9, the Esee 3,4,5, and 6, and a Spartan Blade just for fun. I really liked the handles on the Beckers and the Esees the most. When I saw the price of the Esee 4 was 87 dollars and the Beckers were pretty much the same price I decided to go with the Esee because of the warranty and the fact that my hand wraps perfectly around the handle and just locks on. It's also just a nicer looking knife in my opinion. I read some comments that said the BK2 and Esee 5 were to clunky and thick and they were right. I didn't realize how thick they were until I actually held one for myself. So I decided to go with the Esee 4 because it's the perfect size for what I need. If I need to I can always carry a hatchet or folding saw along with it. Plus the color really gets me. I love it. I just wish it would stop raining and snowing so I can get out and play with it!

The one thing I noticed about the factory Becker handles is that they are uniquely designed for both cutting or stabbing. The stabbing part really never occurred to me until my brother in law showed me holding them. He has big hands and the big handles work well for him. But for the most part, he is now a custom knife guy, so he is not likely to ever pick up a Kabar Becker. But he certainly liked the ones I showed him. He isn't much for black blades and prefers leather sheaths.

Esee 5 all the way I was in the same boat as you with choosing the esee 5 or BK 2
I chose the esee because on all the forums it said that most people that buy the BK2 change the handle scales to micarta and it comes to the same price as the esee.
And the esee warrenty is unbeatable people have shot them with 308's and 5.56 and many 45acps and got brand new ones :D
I would go with a esee 5

Wow. Thanks for all the advice. I like the Esee 4 and a folding saw idea. I think that's the way I'm going to go. Sometimes I go on three day backpacking trips and other times I do just drive the truck to the camp site and set up. So the lighter and smaller blade is probably best. The only problem now is waiting for the snow to melt and Smoky Mountain Knife Works to open again.

Probly a bit late but try the esee 4 in your hand first, I found the handle to be a bit short but I didn't have the luxury trying it first too far from the big smoke.

Oh I did. I tried out both and the Esee 4 won out. I got the orange handle with the venom green blade. Love it! Since then I got an Izula 2 and I may love it more. Way more everyday friendly and awesome. I REALLY wish the folder would actually happen one of these days.
