Esee 5 Vs Fox Parang. Opinions?

Hello everyone. I would really like a good survival blade sometime in the near future. Between the Esee and the Fox parang what do you guys think?

When at home in the states I am usually on the west coast. For the coniferous forests is the parang practical? I know its not a full size parang but it just seems like it would make a better chopper.

Also, the blade on the parang is full tang but it does not extend the whole width of the handle. Does this make a big difference?

Advice? pros/cons? either would be appreciated

While the parang may be a marginally better chopper, you may find that the ESEE is more versatile; a nice sharp point comes in handy from time to time. Regarding the chopping, I am afraid that both knives may be a little underwhelming. They are both capable of it, but both are a little too short to excel at it. I haven't handled the Fox Parang, but partially hidden tang would not concern me. It appears robust and well radiused and the overlaid handle may deaden some of the shocks of chopping. That being said, I've also seen some complaints on the ergonomics of the handle.

The ESEE 5 is the better all around knife, a good, simple, useful design.

The Fox Parang is trying too hard to be different to be a great knife.

Neither knife is big enough to be an efficient chopper.

I'd recommend a general purpose belt knife in the 4" range,

...backed up by a bigger tool for serious chopping and baton work.

Like already said... Esee 5 all the way for versatility. If you just want a chopper... Khukuri/kukri (check out HI - Himilayan Imports) or a hatchet/boys axe. The parang design doesn't do much for me. I hate to confuse you but check out the beckers too. bk2 is very similar to the esee 5, it keeps me up at night trying to decide which one i like more. also the bk9 is a better chopper than either 5 incher but still no match for the khuk's and axes. now i am just rambling, the direct answer to your question, 100% esee 5 :)

Collectively from your answers i seem to have a clear cut answer. Esee is the better knife, but both are insufficient for chopping...
A general purpose knife sounds like a god idea, along with a chopping tool if i need it.....
I 've been hoping for a Mcnees psk for awhile now(this is a small knife)... With that and a chopping tool I think I will be satisfied..... previously I was thinking making either an esee or fox parang as the chopping tool.

one day I still want a larger knife. I mite be fantasizing a bit now but I've seen these Phile Rose psk knives... I've asked about these on the forum but Ive gotten no response. Any one know of these? I'll post a picture....

Thank you all of your honest opinions.... very much appreciated
