Esee 5

When I heard that one knife was .33 I thought maybe the esee wasn't as tough as I thought (i know steel is more important but thickness is important to)
I just wanted to make sure the esee was as tough as I had heard or if it was just like any other knife. Thanks for your help.

the ESEE 5 is a tank, comes with a no questions asked warranty and has a great reputation as a heavy duty knife. the ESEE 5 cost about $150, if you are on a tighter budget, the becker BK2 would also be a great choice (cost about $70). personally, for wood processing, i would have a good folding saw on me (like a bahco laplander). add a smaller fixed blade/folder to do smaller jobs and just about all your bases would be covered.

choice was simple for me. I do agree that for slicing and small tasks the 5 might be a little on the thick side but i always have a smaller knife anyway for cookin tasks and small stuff. The 6 can handle punishment no doubt. My brother swears by it but the extra weight is worth the piece of mind to me that i can go to the depths of hell and not have to worry about the integrity of my blade. They both have their place but id say 5 anyday.

ESEE5 has a saber grind......
ESEE6 has a flat grind......
both are great knives ....both designed for different things...

The 5 is the Jack of all trades, master of none. Will it slice? Yep, but there are better slicers. Will it chop? Yep, but there are better choppers. Will it puncture? Yep, but there are better piercing knives. HOWEVER, I don't know of a better knife for being able to do an acceptable job at ALL the tasks :-)

I love all the ESEE knives...they are tough, well designed, great fit and finish and the1095 for me, is the ideal steel for sharpening ease and good edge retention.
I have the 4, 5 and 6 and love them all but the 6 has my heart. Here is my beauty ESEE-6 with its Honduran Rosewood Burl scales made for me by Randy Chinn.

Each of these knives are tools you can stake your life on...of all the 4 is the handiest, the 6 is the best all around knife and the 5 is the one you want when when your life is threatened. ESEE knives can't be beat for the price point.

Best regards to all

Those ebony scales are the best looking i've seen. I really like them. The others are pretty the ebony just grabs me though.
