ESEE 6 belt carry

I mounted my ESEE 4 with molle locks to the front of the shoulder strap of my Maxpedition Gearslinger Lunada. Now if I can avoid severing my jugular vein when reholstering I'll consider it a success. If I can't......I guess I won't report back.

You know it's not like 20 dollars is going to kill be, I honestly just think it's kind of bullshit that this is even a problem on 100 dollar piece of steel. I've got two ESEEs and I might even buy more some day, but they've already made their money on this knife and I'm not giving them any more just so I can carry it on my belt. Another aftermarket sheath is an option but a 20 dollar belt clip or a 45 dollar molle back are definitely not.

I love the product and I know if it ever has any issues it'll be taken care of, but some things I'm just not gonna do no matter how much I like the folks I'm giving my money to.

FYI, this is in response to the couple people suggesting I just buy the thing. I don't know how to quote two people. I'm not just trying to bitch. I love my ESEEs and Jeff and Mike seem like swell guys.

Hey bud, please let me know if you ran across an aftermarket sheath for your Esee. I am also after one for my Esee 6. I dont like the molle system and definitely not the belt clip they are selling now. I am looking for something with a belt loop, functional but decent looking as well. I guess paracord it is (which i think is crap) until something like a secure ex sheath becomes available. I also feel one should have been an option if not standard with this knives, but that is just my opinion. I am brand new at this forum (I did check the date on this thread) and may be setting myself up for some major slandering. Have at it...

Looks like you've been offered a few different methods for belt carry of your 6. I was also unsatisfied with the stock sheath, so I took some time and a minimum of materials and now it's one of my favorite knives to carry in the bush. My suggestion is to put your thinking cap on and get creative. If you aren't willing to spend an extra $30 on a MOLLE back, fine. There are low (or zero, if you stuff laying around) cost ways to modify the existing sheath.

Yeah, it is BS that a $100+ knife includes a sheath that doesn't attach to your belt. This and no nylon sheath options is the only problem I have with Esse.

That was my only complaint about my 6, the inability to carry it comfortably on a belt. I moulded a drop down attachment for my sheath from a piece of Kydex that I had laying around. A 12''x12'' piece of Kydex is about $8 depending on the source and its easy enough to mould using a kitchen oven. I rigged mine with para-cord to the sheath and it works great!

It could easily cost $150 and have all the mounting options you want. There's a dozen to pick from. Easier to let you pick yourself. Nylon sheaths, in general, are crap in my experience. There's a few out there if you really want them, but again, with it being something so personal, they just let you get it yourself. The knife itself is unquestionable worth over $100 alone, so I dont see why it's a problem.

The ironic thing, is that the sheathing system is the reason I started buying ESEE knives. and this was BEFORE the molleback was even made for the 5 or 6.

ESEE operates on one of the lowest profit margins I've seen in any industry.

If your concern is that they're leaving things out to make you buy them later....they're not. This isn't Harley-Davidson.

The knife alone was worth the cash. They offer the knifes basically bare, and let you decide which option to take for carry. It's not a scam, it's an option to keep you from paying for a carry method you dont want. They could include all the options, and charge the $60 more it'd cost them. but they charge less and let you pick. So whats the issue?

I know that the knife and sheath are worth more than what I paid for them. They're fantastic.

I think the molle back and especially the clip plate are over priced. 18 bucks for a little piece of metal is just kinda silly. But it looks like I'm gonna have to buy it because I simply can't get anything to work.

Horndog, that's what my original post was in reference to, but it got edited due to a direct link to a vendor not supported by BF. So, to re-reference without a link, but the OP can use some google-fu, Texashuntco has a sheath that is amazingly well-made for the price, and it is a variation of the Specops sheath, from my understanding.

+1 I picked up 2 Texas Hunt Field Master 8" sheaths. They're the same as the Spec Ops Combat Master sheaths. Bad news is it looks like they're out of the 6" model. Good quality nylon with kydex liner sheath. Only difference I can tell from my Spec Ops sheath is they sew their label on the back of the belt strap instead of on the inside of the belt strap. Apparently Texas Hunt and Spec Ops are both trademarks owned by Best Made Designs, L.L.C.

I'm with Diz on this. The same reason I buy kifaru packs and Esee knives are the modularity. They give me a basic setup that I can adapt to any number of situations or needs. Throw in some paracord or zipties, a teklok here or there maybe some webbing and you can make it your own and adapt to your own needs.
