So I've been saving my pennies, and I cannot decide between the Esee 6 or the Tops BOB. They cost around the same, but the BOB is much smaller, and Esee has that amazing warranty, but plenty of people love the BOB and it looks great to me. Please tell me your opinions.

Thats a good question. I cant really comment to much on the ESEE 6 cause I dont own 1 but I do have an ESEE 5 and a BOB. Both are GREAT knives I would have to say My BOB is a better all around knife unless you are planning on hacking or batoning large pieces of wood. Can you see yourself gutting a Brook Trout with a ESEE 6? Well there is my 2cents hope it helps.

Well I want to be able to baton a little bit, dosent need to be crazy though because I plan on getting a hatchet or a chopper, I would like to be able to do fine work as well as gutting animals, and I want it to be well built so it wouldn't break if I did baton

I feel like the ESEE 4 is a better comparison since they're more comparable in size. In which case it probably just comes down to whether you want a full flat grind or a Scandi grind, and which handle is more comfortable for you.

Stuckineriver and pachiderm make great points. The BOB would excel at serving your needs of "fine work" and "gutting" animals, plus it's a well built comfy knife. It batons quite well and is a decent chopper for small reasonable chopping tasks. Although I don't own an ESEE 6 I think it might be a little large if you plan on carrying a hatchet also. I'd imagine the ESEE 6 can do "some" fine work and "some" chopping but wouldn't excel at either task when compared to carrying a hatchet and BOB combo. Just my assumption though. I'm guessing a hatchet, that's made for chopping, and a BOB, that's made for bushcraft, would be a very effective combo. Just my humble opinion.

I Was debating between the bob or Esee 4 but ended up going with the Esee laser strike based on the handle and warranty, it is comparable in price as well. Happy hunting!

I do not know the Esee 6

I have the TOPS BOB and the Becker BK16
These are similar knives in length and function
The Becker BK 16 is much lighter with a much more comfortable handle
This makes the knife easier to use than the BOB
I would not purchase the BOB

While I have no experience with the TOPS B.O.B., I have - and use - the Esee 4, BK16, and Enzo Trapper. The value, quality, and comfort of those knives make the B.O.B. a tough sell, IMO. When I decided to up the ante in that size range, I chose the Bark River Bravo 1-LT; and I've not regretted my choice.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not knocking the B.O.B...it seems to have a following, and plenty of good reviews. If it appeals to you, I'm sure it will serve you well.

I have the ESEE 6 and TOPS BOB. For what you ask the TOPS BOB will serve you very well.

I have an Esee 6. Unfortunately I don't have much experience with the B.O.B. I love my Esee 6 it's an all around great knife. With that said, I have to recommend the Esee Laser Strike over either of your choices. Of all the knives I've owned and used, it's my favorite (at least in my top 2). Don't let the name get to you (I see a lot of people bashing the L.S. due to it's rather 'cheesy' name). It's really a shame that it doesn't receive more love among knife enthusiasts. It's defiantly the most underrated of the Esee line-up.
