So I have an Izula II, a 4 and a 6, but my question is, should I sell my 6 to buy a Junglas?

While I would like to have each ESEE, financially that isn't feasible, nor would all the knives see enough use to justify their purchases, so my thought about the Junglas over the 6 were simply this.

In the northeast the 6 is too big to carry most places except the farm, the sheeple simply disagree. Since that's the case, it would likely only ever get used for camping trips or day hikes. Now you say, well is the 6 scares the sheeple, the Junglas will terrify them. You are right, sure will, especially the wife, but I'm thinking if they are both frowned upon I should simply get the larger knife. Having the Izzy 2 and 4, the 6 would primarily be used as a chopper and to split small (less than 2") pieces of wood. Now, can't the Junglas handle those tasks better than the 6?

All opinions welcome, and thanks.

I think you worry far too much, or enjoy worrying about what others may, or may not, think of your knife. "Scare the Sheeple" Come on now.

My recommendation would be to buy what pleases you. If you want it, and 'can't afford it', then save for a month or so.

I own a 6 and would be hard pressed to trade it for anything. It has a place of honor strapped on my BOB in my truck. A very well though out piece of kit. With the Molle Back, fold the jump flap over the knife and the pouch out front. Most folks don't even recognize it as a knife. I have many knives locked away, but this one is the one I'll depend on in any emergency situation. I think that says a lot about it's versatility.

I also own several others 4-3s 1-5. The 5 would go before the 6.

Don't get me wrong I want a Junglas. I just wouldn't give up my 6 to get it.
I can't imagine many real world tasks that could not be accomplished with the 6-3 combo.

Hope this helps,

Perhaps I misspoke. It's not that I worry about what they think because they clearly would like the Junglas less than the 6. The simpler question would have been, what can the 6 do that the Junglas can't? And vice versa. If you could only own one, which would it be?

Mine is also strapped to a BOB atm, but I have a new pack in the mail which may become my BOB/EDC combo bag replacing the other.

OK This is my spin.... As much as we love our knives they are tools. Picking the right tool for the job is the key. A Jungas can do many things I am sure. But if you are out camping wouldn't a hatchet or axe be a better tool for chopping. If you are out and you run into a situation where you are out in the woods for the day and can't get back to where you need to get to then I am sure you could use both a 6 and a jungas for getting a fire going. But at that point you will have bigger problems....like getting back to your transport or getting the attention of the rescue folks..... so the ultimate decision can only be answered by you

Hey Bro, here's the way I see it. In CT and MA you can not carry anything over 4", so all my larger knives go in my pack. When on the trail, or in the campsite you can use what ever the hell you want. No one will say anything to you, as long as you are using the large knife as a tool.

Now with all that said, The 6 is a good knife and can do everything you need it to do out and about. However the Junglas with it's larger blade and a tad more weight forward is a better chopper by far. It can also batton larger diameter wood (if thats your thing).

I don't have much problem choking up on the Junglas for finer work, but truth be told. I always belt carry a smaller fixed blade that is more suited for that task.

So my advice is, sell the 6, buy the Junglas. If it doesn't work for you, you can always sell the Junglas and buy another 6.

I agree an axe would be better if I were cutting up larger diameter trees or logs, but I'm talking about branches mostly and stuff generally under wrist-sized.

Tony, either would definitely be pack oriented. It was very early when I wrote that, maybe I just wanted to say sheeple, idk.

Thanks for all the input.

Sell the 6 and get the Junglas. Since you have a 4 the next step would be the Junglas. I have a 4 and a Junglas and they are an AWESOME combination. You can do ANYTHING with these two knives. You won't be splitting larger wood and other bushcraft with the 6 like you can wit the Junglas. The 4 is amazing for all the smaller stuff that needs done and it makes the best EDC knife. Not saying the 6 isn't an incredible knife; it's just that when it comes down to real practicality I believe the 4 and Junglas are the best combo on the planet.

I absolutely agree. If you're only carrying one blade, then go with the 6. I prefer to carry a small and large blade, like the 3 and the Junglas. YMMV

Could not agree more! the difference between the 4 and the 6 is, what, about 1.5 inches? so the 4 would be more the then capable of handling job that the Junglas couldn't quite tackle on. basically the 4 would replace the 6 and the Junglas would be used for more the heavier work like cutting down small tree and chopping fire wood IMO. hope that helps! :):)

I have to throw in my 2 cents. I am a 2 blade guy. Living in the big woods I always pair up a large knife and small knife. If I only carry my ESEE 5 I back it up with a hatchet. I agree carry the junglas and RC 4.There is no task you could not get done. I know the 6 is a great knife but if you are going to carry 2 knives the junglas and 4 are perfect.

were I in your shoes (and your logic is sounds for your needs - no worries there) I would keep the 6 and buy one of the 1/8" thick ontario 12" machetes for $20.
that said, what i did was buy a Junglas to go with my 6, but my 6 came in the RAT pack kit.
if you're feeling minimalist, a Junglas and Izzy 2 will meet the majority of your campsite needs.

If I had both, it's very unlikely they'd both get used.

The 6 and the Junglas are very different knives. There are days I'll pair the two of them on a hike.

For me, I see it like this:

The 6 is a high utility, Good at everything knife. The perfect woodsbum blade.

The Junglas is something that's fun to have and play with. It's a good thing to have if you can't carry a full size machete. If you can carry a full size machete, I would recommend that.

If you'd have to sell the 6 to get the junglas, I'd keep the 6, and get either an 18" condor, a 12" ontario, or an ESEE lite machete.

I think it would be worth it to save up, and buy the Junglas . Unless you have an immediate need for the Junglas I don't see a need to sell the E-6 , but that just my opinion I seem to hang on to my fixed blades longer than folders sometimes go up for sale the same day I get them=)

If you are going to sell something sell the 4 which costs almost as much as the 6. You have the Izula for anything the 6 is to big for which is almost nothing. Izula, 6, Junglas fills the gaps perfectly in size. In the end though I have the 4 and would never sell it to put towards a Junglas that can be saved for with a little patience. Good luck however it turns out. Don't ever sell a 6 though its bad luck.

I see a need for you to sell the 6, I need one and will be glad to take it off your hands. In all reality though I have a izula,3,4, and junglas. The junglas is fun but for your location just trying to stay under the radar from the sheeple and law enforcement I say your good with the 6. If you really just want a junglas do as suggested and just save for it. In the mean time I you just have to have a bigger chopper like now a fiskars axe or a 14-18 inch condor machete will cover your needs for under 40 bucks. Plus these might even go over a lot better given your location

Depends on what you do and use 'em for really. I have both and I wouldn't sell my 6. Aside from the smaller ESEE (izzy, hest) the 6 is probably my most used. The Junglas is cool, fun, and all that but generally speaking an ESEE 6 plus a $20 18" machete is more practical. Sooooo, I'd say keep the 6, buy an inexpensive machete or axe for the time being, and save for a Junglas if you want one.
