Let me start off by saying i am completely satisfied with the ESEE fire kit as is..i love it... it is my go to firesteel on any occasion.

what if it was offered in Desert tan with black writing? Or blaze orange with black writing? i bet they would be very popular items..the ESEE firekit is already a top seller..adding a few colour schemes certainly wouldnt hurt sales :D i understand it takes tonnes of work to make a change like that..i was just sayin..wouldnt you like to have a DT or orange fire kit?

what say you?

DO WANT!!
really though. Orange sounds great, given that I've lost two of these damn things now :o

Anodized in different colors would be cool. And an attachment for your sheath from ESEE to carry your firesteel next to the knife like some sheath makers manufacture.

I think the orange would be a great idea, real easy to find if dropped. Other colors might sell, but personaly I choose colors for being easy to see (orange) or hard to see (black/brown/dark greens). Almost all my knives are users.

All the more reason to have em made in blaze orange!!

i dont want multiple colour options, just maybe even blaze orange with the black writing would be deadly...

Definately up for the orange one, great idea. Personally I support those guys above me not wanting 4 different colors... The dark green we have right now for a stealthy carry and the nice orange one, for the same reason I picked the orange 4, as easy-to-find-when-dropped version. Hopefully Mike and Jeff got some time to think about that when they're coming back from SHOT

I'll throw my +1 to a Blaze orange anodized finish. Paracord can help, but more orangier (quiet, that's a word) is more better (double comparative's are like hyperbole.)

Gob bless,
Adam

i thought about that too, but then you lose all that handy survival info. i'm a newb...:o

That reminds me of an episode of Survivorman I was watching. One of his crew gave him a Survival in a Can kit. He opens the thing up and inspects the contents and gets to the last thing, a sheet of paper. "Oh, what's this, instructions... on how to survive, excellent."

Get out, grow your skills and carry a Cellphone.

God bless,
Adam

not to take the conversation in a different direction, but... i just purchased a lite machete not 10 min ago with another AH-1, and i was also going to buy the fire kit. But then i was reminded that the price is about 25-35 $$$. I was curious as to why the price is so high for what it is (or perhaps i am missing something). I personally think it should be closer to 15 or so IMO. But i know regardless of the price, i will eventually buy one.

if it was a solid handle yeah the price would be lower. but you get a machined hollow handle container with replaceable firesteel and a button compass for 29 bucks. thats actually pretty cheap.

take it easy

I'd like to know why you personally think the ESEE Firekit should cost closer to $15 or so in your opinion?!?! First off you get not only a great fire starter but a first class piece of gear. Unlike most other fire starters the rod is replaceable, so if you wear it out pay about $2 and get a brand new one. It also comes with a really good button compass inside on the cap that's capable of guiding you back home to safety. If you go buy a really good button compass by itself, it alone will cost you $8-$10. The inside of the handle is hollowed out allowing you to carry quite a bit of fire starting material. I don't know of any other fire starters that will allow you to do that. The handle is made of aluminum and the inside has to be milled out which is not a cheap process. Lastly as nice of guys as Jeff and Mike are they are in the business to make some profit and do have add some kind of mark up to the product. The dealers that sell the product also add a mark up on it so they can make a profit. So for what you get, a great fire starter that you'll never need to replace with it's added features it's a great buy! I'm trying to understand your justification for why you think it should only cost $15 or so when you don't even own one?!?! You don't know one single thing about what it even costs ESEE to produce the product! If you don't want to buy it, don't buy it. Don't make totally uninformed statements (in your opinion) about what you think someone should charge for something.:D
