Works Great !!!!!!!!!!

yes. i used a lighter to heat up the base for 20 secs or so. i replaced my newer one with a misch metal. i was too lazy to drill and tap so i just permanently epoxied the replacement.

Thanks. I also was considering replacing it with a misch metal. I might use it as it for awhile before I decide. I should have it in hand sometime next week. What kind of epoxy did you use?

Thanks for the warning. I'll keep that in mind if I do replace it.

The ESEE-3 with the clip point is really calling to me, specifically for fire-steels. But really, I need another knife like I need a hole in my head.

The best striker I've found so far for the firesteels are the strikers that are currently supplied with the Light-My-Fire steels. They went to a dull, thinner scraper, and it works MUCH better.

I like these:

$.99 is pretty good, and it doesn't tear up your edge or require you to grind off any coating from your knife.

Are the fire kits only available in green? Mistwalker's looks black, is that a trick of the light or are those available?

I just saw smcclown05's brilliant idea of using a Victorinox Classic as a striker in the photo thread and now I want to pair up my old black Classic with a fire kit!

Mine is really dark green and that is just a trick of the low lighting.

They are all varying shades of green. In my photos you can see it. The handles are annodized aluminum, and the process isn't exact in general.

I stuff 3 PJCB's in mine, I do not put them in a plastic bag. My latest striker is the small one available from Going Gear.

I hear you there. I have an ESEE on on the way, but beside that all I have is some matches and a well used LMF.

Does it come with a poratble compass inside?

I got the impression from someone that reviewed the Rat Pack on their own website that the compass was included, but when I was about to order it from another store, it said that the compass was to be user supplied...

The ones I have do have the compass included.
