ESEE Firekit Question

Actually you're suppose to boil you tinder so you can get the fire going to get the water boiling that is used to boil your tinder.
 
Moist tinder, or tender tinder is much better. It just means it's fresher, you don't want to be burning older tougher tinder. Poached firesteel is always better.

It's not an issue. In my original post I was just wondering about it. I knew that it would still work perfectly well.

After a few more searches around the forums I had read many posts by guys who said their firesteel was super easy to remove. So I thought why not, I'll just replace it with a 3" or 4" firesteel while I'm at it. The only reason I tried boiling water was that the lighter trick didn't work.

Thank you very much for the very generous offer. However, as I said before, it's not that huge of an issue for me - I really was just wondering. In fact, shortly after posting last night I thought to myself, "Fuck it, who cares." I went out into the backyard and with some twigs and twine started my first real fire! It really is a great piece of kit and I am happy to own it. :thumbup:

Now you tell us-why weren't these guidelines included with the fire kit ? You know we hang on every word you say.

A good trick is to boil it in milk as opposed to water. That way when you get frustrated at the fact that all this survival stuff isn't so easy you can sing yourself a lullabye and sip some warm milk until you're dreaming. Sleep is necessary you know
