ESEE Firestarter vs. Strikeforce

best way to get it out is a heat gun use gloves. the size is 3/8th inch for the rod.

i'd just epoxy the new one back in, you could drill and tap but its easy to break them doing that. just ask ttd.

take it easy

Wicked. I think I'll look into that mod when I have some extra cash kickin' around. Thanks dave

I'm curious, what will it do to a newly sharpened blade if you run it down a fire steel?

Make sparks?

:)

It'll dull it slightly. They're designed for emergency use, at a time it wouldn't matter. It's a small portion of the blade affected. I generally use my izula or the small blade of an SAK to do it.

There's also a bit of discoloration. But it wipes right off.

I love ESEE knives but my several fire kits consist of 1/2 size baggies and contain:

4 cotton balls - these really pull apart nicely into a little blanket (you don't need a whole one except in adverse conditions)

Vasoline brand chapstick for annointing a tinder ball in the rain for instance. (really burns for a long time).

2 Bic lighters!! I'm not too proud to use them.

ESSE cheapo fire steels (replacing them with Swiss Army fire steels)

I don't want to be negative - I'm sure an ESEE Firestarter is excellent but they appear big, heavy and expensive. Same price point - 2 Swedish Army Fire Steels require no scraping with or even possession of a knife.

I'd sure rather have it than using a fire bow though! :D
