So I want the RAT folder but neither is going to be available for quite some time (and the hest is freakin expensive). That being said, do you guys know of anything close to either of these knives?

the zt350 is pretty hard to beat, strong knife and holds a great edge. that and the kershaw tyrade are the 2 i carry the most while waiting on the hest folder.

take it easy

i carry a spyderco paramilitary and a CRK small sebenza, the new spyderco para 2 could be an option for you. or if you want a larger knife you could consider the military.

That ZT is a beast!

The dejavoo looks about perfect. Can you carry that in the tip up position?

Buck C-SAR, Spyderco Chinook III, Military, and ParaMilitary on the higher end. Buck 110 and the Bucklite versions, Spydie Endura, BM Griptilian on the lower end. thats a $20-$125 price range for a non China made quality folder. You could also look at the Ontario Rat II folder for a made in China $25 option.

What are your thoughts on those guys?

I carry a BM Dejavoo model 740 PE , I really like it

Yup. The Dejavoo is one of my most frequently carried folders as well. I usually carry that, or my slightly tinkered BM Onslaught.

In the spirit of hellbent for stout, basic, effective folders though, the Bradley Alias comes to mind.

Everything else that comes to mind is a bit rare these days. The old Greco folders, REKAT Pioneer, etc.

Speaking of older knives though...the first time I ever read an article written by Jeff Randall was when he wrote a glowing review on the Al-Mar SERE 2K.
That might also be worth consideration.

spyderco sage 1 or 2!!!! personally I have the sage 1 and its the best folder ive owned, great steel, nice grippy carbon fiber, and not too expensive, solid lock up and very smooth

I carry a Benchmade Griptillian and love it. But the Ontario made Rat-1 folder is an awesome knife for the money. (Around 30 bucks.) I've bought them for my wife's brother and cousin and they love them.

If you want RAT designed on the cheap, I'd look that one over.

I've been carrying an Ontario Rat 1 for a few months now and for the price it's hard to beat. You can move the clip for tip up or down and for right or left hand carry. It came pretty sharp and holds an edge well

i just recently bought the BM barrage its a lil beast...also bought a SOG twitch2.nice lil EDC knife not to big and heavy solid build quick open on them both...neither are frame or liner lock.dont know your preference but im not a fan of liner/frame locks.

I like my Emerson A-100 for a similar use I'd give the Izula folder when it comes out. Nice thick blade with a stout tip. Great handle shape both jimping wise and g-10 texturing, and a solid build overall. But they aren't cheap, and the chisel ground edge turns a lot of people off, though I find it more durable, and easy to charge to a standard v-grind with a course stone.

Just ordered a Large seb. Couldn't resist any longer :o.
Other than that a Spyderco (para)militray is on my list.

If you want (super)heavy duty, the Lionsteel SR-1. But that even more cash than the HEST/F :)

I tryed out a few of them, and they are a Very good blade. Great edge, and function. (I still have their fliet knive, and I'm keepin it. Best one of all I tryed) Yeah if the folder is anything like KOS's other blades,my guess its a Very good one. enjoy edgy

I would say buy a CRK seb/small seb but that is out of your range since you are saying the ESEE folders are expensive. My next suggestion is to get the Spyderco Sage 2. It feels great in my hand and would definitely be riding in my pocket if that space wasn't taken up by my CRK (Small CGG, small 21, small insingo).
