ESEE Folder Substitute?

when I carry a folder I carry either my Zero Tolerance 301 or my Combative Edge M1. The ZT 301 is kind of heavy but it is one hell of a knife toughest folder I have ever seen, the combative edge is very light for its size and so far has been extremely tough, amazing cutting ability too.

For me, having to wear a suit and tie around 6 days a week I have to EDC something with a slim profile, recently I got a Kershaw Leek and have been very happy with it. Usually I have a benchmade or a syperderco (a couple of each) that I interchange.

On my day off I carry the EsKaBar with the izula scales, either back pocket carry or horizontal with paracord.

I put in a pre order for the hest folder and hoping I got in for the first shipment of the non-numbered variety. I am guessing that when it's in my hands the above will change. I too am totally stoked and think this will be a good EDC all around.

I have seen a few of these in the pictures of the ESEE jungle trips:

I carry a Chris Reeve Insingo or a Benchmade 550HG or a Benchmade Bone Collector for bigger folders.

RAT1 folder is a cheap and good folder. I also like my ZT0350CB, small and well built, love the Elmax edge. Cant wait to check out the new Izula folder when it comes out.

I use a cold Steel Recon 1. It's a bit large for my liking , but that Demko lock is the bomb. Strongest lock up I've seen. The ergos are great for med. to lrg. mitts, and the Aus 8 I have no complaints about. Great knife under $ 100.

For a cheap good knife...id get a Buck vantage pro...great for edc type things...if you want a good knife try to pick up a spyderco paramilitary 2. If those are too $$ just go for a Spyderco delica or endura...they are like $50. Spyderco makes great slicers. if you want a classic get a Buck 110, but it wont be very practical unless you like belt carry, or want to shell out and additional $35 for STR to mod your knife with a titanium pocket clip. If you are hellbent on US made knives, (which are the best in the world!), then probs go for some of the inexpensive golden models, like the Native or the UK penknife series. Serious fixed blade replacement folders are usually fairly pricey...Some of the benchmades are also really good. Like the Griptillians, for instance, are great knives. I owned a BM 710 and it was great! Spyderco's are my personal fav right now, they are just great for everything that i throw at them in my suburban environment. If my para 2 CF S90V preorder falls through, then i will have to pick up a lefty DPx H.E.S.T.

Thats my two cents...

. Good framelock design
· Very EDC-able dimensions
· Decent edge holding on the blade
· Ergonomic handle design
· Inexpensive price point

I heard it being described once as the "poor man's SNG." Honestly, not really a fair comparison. ;)

From the kitchen to the farm, its done it all.

Nice spine inlay

Just received my Lg 21 Sebenza 3 days ago :) Very impressive knife. Everything about it is true craftmanship. My only folder was a Buck 110, which didnt see much use after the izula came in. So far i very much impressed with the sebbie. Been opening and closing it constantly while watching tv :)
Was in doubt about the the Isingo or the normal 21. Took the normal since i like the blade shape more.

Well.. I have been carrying a Kershaw Mini Cyclone off and on for a few years now. I trade it off for other blades, but keep coming back to it. Not too pricey, frame lock is rock solid even after all the abuse I've put it thru and it is open assist, which can be disabled for place that that feature is illegal.

The Cyclone is a big large for my taste, but the Mini Cyclone is about prefect.

It's like everything else, it's all in what you like. But I am very comfortable recommending the Kershaw as a EDC blade.

Personally, I carry an Emerson CQC7B and a Benchmade (either the Kulgera or the 940) at all times. Sometimes, I also carry the Spyderco Military. If I'm biking, a Benchmade 530 (extremely thin and light, sometimes I forget it's there) is clipped to my bike shorts, and the Emerson is either in the saddle bag, or on the strap of my pack.

For a lower cost option, I do like the Kershaw Leek (have the combo-blade with the D2 edge) a lot. It's slim, light, fast, and not at all intimidating to sheeple (easy to dress up with, unlike the Emerson or Spyderco Military).

That said, the Leek doesn't give me the confidence the other knives do tho. All the other knives feel VERY VERY solid, and I don't think about having to me careful using them. Just because of the size and weight of the Leek, I'm usually a bit more delicate with it. Don't get me wrong, it's very well made, and well put together.. .it's just not beefy like an Emerson or a ZT or the expected HEST/F.
