Esee folder?

Hard-use anything does not fold up and need to be splinted back into one piece

However, folding stuff which is meant to cut and not rust up in your pocket does just fine with 440C or BG42.

I do actually use my Benchmade Griptillian folder hard. As hard as any knife of that size can be used. I did batoning with it and cut down a four inch diameter tree. Did well for a knife of that size. It will not stand up to abuse as long as a fixed blade will of course, but it folds and clips to my pocket and can be used hard if it has too. I would prefer a tool steel though like d2 for my folder rather than the 154cm it is made with. KNIFEABILITY-a must for all humans

I'm afraid to use a Grip hard, the handles just feel like they are going to cave in on me, but a guy at a show had one with the Wilkins grips and that was sweeet.

D2 is a tool steel? Try 01 or A2 when you have a chance if you have not. :D

D2 behaves a lot like 440C. I'm interested to see the Rowen formula, but D2 is chosen as often as not because it is more stain resistant than the other "non-stainless" steels, not for it's performance as a tool steel.

Personally I'd love to see the Izzy folder done with 1095 and toss an E-nickel finish on it for corrosion resistance.

I carry a Sebenza, which means WORK. I still know better than to do stupid stuff with it unless I need to. I'm working towards not carrying a folder, however. The little Izzy seems to be a lot more practical and is just as easy to carry.

I'll snag an Izzy folder, but I'd really like to see it with the Rowen-done 1095 and some e-nickel (which is also a fairly green process when done right) and that'd really be keeping in the RAT ideal.

I'm really happy with my ESEE knives, so I don't care what type of metal Jeff & Mike settles on, it will be the same high quality product that we're use to seeing. I just want one really bad. Or two!

Yes D2 is a really tough tool steel and will bury 440C. I mean stomp it into the ground when it comes to toughness. D2 is what Bob Dozier uses for his blades and yes I used both including A2 in BRK&T. A2 is in another price category and is a step up from D2. D2 is tougher than all but the best stainless blades.
