ESEE Folders (Zancudo and Avispa) - Thoughts?

Technically they are made in Taiwan but since Taiwan is a province of China and governed by China I just consider is another part of China.

Very nicely put! I think I must have stepped on some toes with my blunt opinion. My wife says I'm "Brutally" honest....sometimes that's a bad thing I guess-lol

I don’t think brutal honesty was the problem at all. You didn’t ruffle feathers because you expressed a strong opinion. You ruffled feathers because you were the dangerous combination of insistant and incorrect.

They are fine budget knives, but I prefer the Ontario Rat models that are made in the same factory (not a big fan of framelocks). As far as the Medellin that was just released, I don't see the added value that justifies it being sold for $20 over an Ontario Rat 1.

crocogator106 - maybe next time state why you feel they were not a good knife rather than a blanket statement. Someone asked a question about the knife fill in the blanks for them better. State what you did not like about it.

As far as marketing goes, it’s a huge shift to go from naming your smaller knives after insects such as ants, wasps, and mosquitoes—to naming them after very large and very beautiful (though once very dangerous) cities.

As far as the knives are concerned, if the D2 models perform anything like Ontario’s rat1 in D2, as would be the case if the manufacturers are the same, it is best in class.

I can definitely respect that opinion, especially when you can get a Rat in d2. Esee blades cost more then Ontario across the board. The one big difference with the Medellin is you get the same warranty as their fixed blades which I think is the best in the knife world. I don’t think that was the case with the Avispa or the Zancudo.

You are absolutely correct on the warranty aspect, I personally would have no use for a warranty on a budget blade, but can understand the appeal.

I like my zancudo. It's a solid little blade with a satisfying flip out action. I haven't yet bought the other one but I plan to.

Thanks but I think I'll state my opinion the way I want to! I didn't like anything about the knives and thats the way I stated it. Everyone is so hypersensitive these days. The OP asked for an opinion and I gave mine. If someone doesn't agree with me thats fine, I can respect that. There are opinions I do not agree with on the knives mentioned but I have not told ANYONE they are wrong in their opinion. I do not agree with your opinion but I'm not going to tell you (or anyone) they are wrong-just a difference of opinion.

SharpieB sorry if I derailed your post with my thoughts on the knives. It certainly was not my intention. I tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full so I thought I would state what I had to say here. Good luck with whatever you decide to do about the knives. If you decide to buy them I hope they serve you well!

Not at all. No worries.

crocogator106 - you are entitled to your opinion and I'm not saying your opinion is wrong. I was saying you are wrong with them being Chinese made. Maybe I missed a comma somewhere that screwed up my intention.

Anyway, Zancudo - decent knife for the money, but gave it away because I have other folders I like more (Spyderco Delica/BM Bugout/Kershaw Dividend).

I'll add this much: first, I know how to actually pronounce it, but because I think it sounds hilarious, I am 100% pronouncing it the "Muh-dell-in", and secondly, if they make the Medelly in D2, I will throw down, assuming it remains in a competitive price bracket (they need to watch out for how close they get to Steel Will's utterly insane-for-the-price options)
