OK, I did exactly that and went and checked. I did NOT mount it, but holding it up to the back-plate, I'm about 90% certain that it would. It looked like the bottom of the HEST sheath would line up with the bottom of the snap-strap that is used on the back-plate to attach that plate to PALS straps.

Apparently I am not going to order them, the ESEE paypal links wont let me buy two different items without doing two different orders. I have tried four different browsers, I am giving up for the night. :(
 
Can't you leave a request in the comments section requesting a single shipment? I've done that before on Ebay.
 
Look's like that is what I am going to have to do, can't get it to work properly.
 
Ugh. Well now that I am ready to order I'm second guessing myself. I want the MOLLE back for the strap over the handle as insurance to make sure it stays solid in the sheath while backpacking, but I just don't know if it is neccessary. It would be attached to the belt-webbing or side of a Kifaru Zulu or ZXR.

Thoughts? MOLLE back or no? Hmmmm.
 
Carry my hest horizontal at the 1 o' clock position. its perfectly hidden and is really comfortable. its a great tool to have on you but not nearly as small as an izula. thats why i carry both. the hest is becoming oneo f my favorite blades!

Do you have the HEST yet?

I'd have to look at it again against my MOLLE back to see if the strap would actually have any effect on the security of the HEST on the MOLLE back. I didn't notice if the HEST grip comes up that high. I don't have the equipment with me here at the office, though, so I can't check it right now.

I will say that I removed that security strap from my MOLLE back. I did not like it. It is velcro instead of a snap (intentionally, according to RAT), which I don't like at all. I debated just cutting away the velcro hooks and putting a snap on myself, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble since I'm never going to "jump" with it, and it also has the elastic band at the top to put over the top of the knife-handle as additional security during a jump. My ESEE-4 is plenty secure for my purposes in just the kydex sheath (always upright, with probably 90% of its lifespan being on my belt). Additionally, this is with the tension screw in its lower hole, not the upper, tighter hole. So, I just don't see the need in the strap. But I can still look and see if it would have any effect on the HEST handle, because I can (I think) still see where the strap was stitched to the back.
 
I've been pretty confident in the sheaths alone-positive snap in seems secure enough to me with all my ESEE's.

OK, I held it up to the MOLLE back again, and I'm about 99.9% certain that the HEST sheath will work with the -3/-4 MOLLE back. The only way I could be MORE certain would be to dismount my E-4 and put the HEST on it. I don't really want to go to that much trouble. It will work.

Also, the handle of the HEST, when mounted pretty-much the only way it will go on the MOLLE back, sticks up just as much as the E-4. So, the velcro strap would fit around the HEST fine. Also, the elastic band at the top will fit over the top of the HEST.

I don't really understand why RAT doesn't market the MOLLE back as the ESEE-3/-4/HEST MOLLE back. But if doubt of fit is the only thing keeping you from getting the MOLLE back for your HEST, don't let it stop you.
 
Ok, ok. I'm gonna get it just to try it out and see if I like it. That way I can stop thinking about it, heh.
 
definitely looking forward to a pic with the back strap and HEST sheath. putting heavy thought of making a car kit based around the HEST.
 
nice! I been considering the molle back ever since I got my HEST, when it first came out. cant wait for the pics, their probably going to convince me to get it
 
Sigh, I guess Mike didn't read the message I sent with the PayPal payment. I just checked the email receipt to make sure it was there, and it was.

I got two accesory pouches instead of a pouch and a back. :(

Oh well, I'll use the pouch for my 4 or 5 or something, just gonna have to place another order for the MOLLE back.
