Anyone have this? How does it compare to the normal 6? I was thinking about a BK7 vs Esee six and was watching prices to see if one went on sale. Then I saw this:

Anyone have this? How does it sharpen? Baton? Chop? Carve? I'm thinking of adding this to my wish list and see what happens

With that false edge its going to eat up a baton pretty quickly, saber grind vs a flat grind tends to mean it gives up cutting for strength. I love ESEE but this one seems more geared towards military use than outdoors.

EricV took the words right out of my mouth. That shape and grind just scream military/combat knife. Not to mention the M4/AR15 carbine billboard marketing on the side...

I'm sure it's not useless, haha. The normal 6 was intended for outdoor uses, bushcrafty stuff. I'd imagine the blade in that picture would handle such things just fine, but it does look more like an all purpose military blade.

Not useless, but not what it appears to be designed for. Why fight with your tools if you don't have to? Plenty of guys use mk2 KaBars in the woods, but you're making a knife do what it wasn't designed for and that can get irritating.

So pretty much totally useless for outdoor stuff. Probably should just get a ordinary 6?

Well, you felt it was appropriate for outdoor stuff or you wouldn't have asked. So it will work for what you do in the outdoors and your skill set.

And its an ESEE, and they make quality knives.

It will work in the woods but the regular 6 will work better. Only issue might be the handle scales. The original 6 benefits greatly from upgrading to the tkc scales.

A better ESEE 6 version would be the 6HM with the modified handles and the nice leather sheath, it's got better stock handles than the regular 6 and keeps the rockin' blade shape of the standard 6 but without the finger choil that gets in the way.

Yes, those handles look much better than stock. The rest depends on personal taste. I don't like leather sheaths and I like the choil on my Esee 6. Things for the OP to think about.

I don't like the handle on the 6 HM but I might take a look at that Scandi knife they came out with two years ago cause I know it has the same handle type
