ESEE in the water?

^^^ Any piece of steel fully submerged in water will corrode less than steel that gets wet and is then surrounded by oxygen, owing to the fact that when a piece of steel is underwater there is much less oxygen to turn the iron in the steel into iron oxide (rust).

I'm a bit late to the party but my RC3 has been on and off the river constantly as I work on and around the river the a bit more than half the year. I haven't had much of a rust issue, aside from one time when we were doing some prep for a race and we had heavy rain, and I accidently left my 3 in its sheath in the boat over night. Day after it was a bit funky, but a quick touch up on the edge and it was back to work just fine. The true test will be when I can get back into our work truck and rescue it, as I left it in there at the end of the season and it might have been a bit damp...Wasn't expecting to be unable to get at it.

So far so good though. I have used melted beeswax on the lasered logos and whatnot.

It seems that the handles come right back to good as new no matter what they've been through with a little bit of soft scrub and a towel. Make sure you dry out the sheath before storing the knife in it or you'll likely get some rust spots. Just basic care and common sense and you're good to go!

DON'T DO IT! It will dissolve like Alka Seltzer! That is why my two ESEE's have never seen water!

Might be a stupid idea but what about a wax coating something like bow wax of there alike. Dont know if this would work or not but i might give it a try.

I run mine over a small block of beeswax, even scribble it over the etching. It stays on well and is non-toxic if your cutting up food.
