ESEE Izula Folder

Long-awaited ain't the half of it. I think it's due out right after the Busse folder makes it's debut. :D

Yeah, believe it when I see it. Then again Glock finally made a single stack 9mm, so you never know.

And the Busse folder has been discussed/rumored/promised for a LOT longer... Two weeeks!!! ;)

True. And from the sound of the rumors, their PCC has been in R&D for the last 20 years!:p

I was excited about it 5 yrs ago, now not so much. Especially since they are going to be 440c, not remotely interested in that. Far too many well made folders in better steel out to choose from.

I'm with cricket...... I was very excited many years ago when the first started talking about producing one. But since nothing has ever come about , I have moved on.

I really hope they follow through with this knife and keep the 1095 blade steel. I would really hate to see it in something like 440c

I look forward to it in the same way I look forward to unicorn rides and dragon barbecues. It's been vaporware since before I joined the forum and I don't really expect that to change.

It's another framelock whoopedeedoo. I wish it was micarta scales liner lock with a 1095 blade.

I'll get one whenever it eventually gets released, if nothing more than to fill a spot in my ESEE collection.

Yep, I'm on the pre-order list from some big online knife store or other. I hear that, when it finally does show, it's going to be shipped by Unicorn.

The story of the Izula folder is a long one, and I don't have all the dates, but here goes.

ESEE teamed up with Lionsteel to produce a few prototypes, which got sent to some very loyal ESEE fans for real-world testing. There were some design problems that necessitated a do-over. In the meantime, Lionsteel backed out of the project, and the ESEE guys had problems of their own. IIRC, this is when Pelton left to do his own thing.

The major holdup seems to have been that they decided to produce it in-house, and had to add a lot of capacity to the Rowen factory to do that.

Some more protos showed up at 2014's Blade show, (and maybe SHOT Show as well, I don't remember for sure): http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1186002-Izula-folder-has-arrived

As people discover and re-discover this knife, the subject comes up again. Anything is possible, I suppose, but IMO, ESEE has missed the window for releasing the folding Izula.

Everything I've read has suggested that it would be 1095, which I would absolutely be interested in. (And have been, for two years now.)

I liked the earlier rendition better. It actually looked like the Izula. That one ain't bad looking just not as enticing as this would have been.
