Esee Izula II vs Onterio Rat-3

I've owned an Izula II, a BK11 and BK24, all of which cut about about the same for me. I'm not sure why your experience is more valid than mine - the fact that you like the way they cut could equally lead me to believe you are the one lying.

Specific to the OP's question, I addressed what I thought was a big difference in the Izula and Rat handles in actual use, which you again seem to know so much more than I possibly could about.

So ya, "come on".

Someone who has owned an Izula II would know that the handle is more than adequate. I'm done here.

OP, I recommend either of the knives that you're interested in. They'll both be fine. I will be candid. RX here doesn't know what he's talking about. Have a good one.

Apparently not in the pic: "a real handle".

P.S. This is how I hold it when I'm using it to carve wood. This knife works great at doing that, SFW.

I own both the Izula 2 and Esee 3 . The Esee 3 is "similar" to the Rat 3 from what I've read . Between the two if I had to choose for a camping companion or a survival knife I'd have to go with the Esse 3 because of the thinner blade and with my experience a better slicer and works great for feather sticking but you could baton with it also if need be with its longer blade . I think the Izula 2 makes a great second knife though and a good back up to another . It really is a great knife and love my Izula 2 !

And a sensible person would realize that people's hands are different, and what works for you doesn't work for everyone. I find the narrow and small front of the Izula and BK14/24 a little small. You don't? Not my problem.

Not sure why our difference of opinion about a knife shape requires you to be an insulting ass.

I guess I should have clarified, this will be a second knife situation. Actually, a 3rd knife- I always have a Benchmade Grip in my pack.

Good deal, brother. Either the Izula II or the Rat 3 will serve you well.

This is the handle I made for my BK24 to fatten it up and get some more length. It just didn't do enough for me:

For a second knife, anything is good. My main points of interest with these two is that you may not find the Rat 3 to actually be a "smaller" knife than the Trapper. It has some heft and size to it.

The Izula was designed as a neck knife - the focus was on something useful that would lock positively in a flat sheath and not be very thick so it remains concealed. What you do to achieve that isn't necessarily what you'd do to make a small knife that would be carried in a different manner - which is why you'll note that all the traditional Scandinavian small knives take a very different approach with smaller blades and light, fat handles for ease of use. Something more like this:

There is nothing specifically wrong with the Izula or Rat3 on their own. Most of the reason I am even suggesting other options is that the Izula and Rat are so different from each other and the Rat so similar to your Trapper that a different perspective might be appreciated. Sorry about all the crap on your thread.

Another option is the Bark River Bravo 1 LT , I've been very happy with mine and it's super light and feels great in the hand and a great slicer . Here's mine with Canvas Micarta scales on bottom . Pictured on top is my Bark River Bravo 1.25 with Desert Ironwood scales another great choice but heavier and of course thicker and longer blade . Both have CPM 3V blades

The Izula 2 is the only ESEE I own anymore. If their folder ever comes out, I'd give it a whirl.

Nice. Personal insults and inappropriate language.

And back to the OP....If it were me I would get the Izula II or an Esee 3.

I think between the two a Izula 2 would be the one although my preference would be a strong fixed blade like a esee 3 instead of a folder for a primary . With that being said though I love my Griptilian and it's a great knife and very sturdy .

The grip is just in my pack. I have a folder in all of my packs. Mainly in case something were to happen to my fixed blade.

I think a Izula 2 would be perfect for you and a another nice option because of its size is you can use it as a neck knife . That'll give you more room on your belt for possibly a Esee 3 Down the road 😎
