Esee Izula question

I just got my wife and 10 year-old daughter Izula IIs for Christmas. I prefer the 3, which I think is just as easy to carry, but I'm thinking they'll like the length, and I think they're better off without the choil.

Good purchase. I am never without my Izula. I added the scales and it really made the knife for me. Don't worry about Stoffi, he's just razzing you a bit. All bold is a little harder on the eyes but no biggie. Welcome to Bladeforums!

You should check out the TKC custome Izula scales in G10 too. That goes for the OP as well. $40 for 'em, but man they're really nice

Just like BenchmadeBoy said, it's really hard on the eyes and it's not necessary to have it all in bold anyway.

I hold a machinist ticket , so I have a pretty good eye . BUT after reading more of your posts AND actually measuring the two knives , it actually IS an optical illusion . They both mearsure .162" , but even as I measured them I couldn't believe it . I now realize that it's an illusion based on the color . The first one is black and the second one is tan . What causes the illusion is that when you look down at the spine of the blades , the light color of the tan one makes it possible to see the rounded edge . That edge dissapears on the black one leaving only the flat of the spine visable , making the light colored one look much thicker . They seriously looked so different that I thought one had to be thicker lol . OK , flame away , I've got it comming LOL

No flame necessary here. Science triumphs! I wonder how many of us have been fooled by such an optical illusion? On all kinds of products. What did you use to measure? All I have are rulers and I'd like to be able to measure things more accurately.

KennyB , Thanks for the heads up on the scales . But how much thicker does it make the knife ? The reason I chose the Izula instead of the Izula II or any other neck knife was it's size . I want to be able to put it in a slim sheath I'm making and have the knife actually IN my pocket held by a clip like a folder and have just enough sticking out to be able to access it easily .

stoffi , as you can see my posts are now in the normal setting . If you need to relieve the eye strain , a couple of beers and a few shots of Jack should make them feel just fine ;) .

HoosierQ , I have a set of Mitutoyo Vernier Calipers (that I couldn't find the other night when I posted this) that I used to measure them with . If you know or learn how to read them they are very handy , as they open to just over 6" allowing anything from that size down to be measured to within 1/1000 of an inch . and these days they can be bought for little money .

Could you let me know where to find that Vernier scale? I use to have a pair of Mititoyu Inch calipers and Inch micrometer that I really loved that were gifted to me. They were stolen and when I went to buy a replacement they were way too spendy.

Oh, yeah, and you can check out some of the pics for the scales on TKC's site, but here's the pics they show...

At the widest point up at the handle they're only about .610" for me. So I would think they'd work pretty good with most sheaths and just have kind of a "nub" sticking out at the end.

Hey KennyB

Those scales look great on the Izula . I might be looking into a set of those , thanks for taking the time to post those pics for me ! As for the Mitutoyo calipers , I see what you mean about them being pricey now . I have been out of the machining field for quite some time now and my whole roller cabinet with all my tools was stolen a few years back . I had these old Mitutoyo calipers at home at the time , so they are all I have now for accurate measuring . I took a look on Ebay though and found you this set . Looks like a real steal to me .

I hope that works for you .
