ESEE Izula sheath dulls blade?

A month of no use... you Izula got dull from boredom ;)
Glad you got taken care of though, hope the Izua will grow on you once you start using it, I love mine.

Correction- I GUARNTEE you were a POG. You probably have no less than 3 bumper stickers and a vanity plate in an attempt to convince people otherwise, but I can see right through you. Just another POG who plasters "NamVet" all over everything he owns to try and get attention in hopes that someone will pat you on the back and say thank you for your service when in all actuality you most likely did what every other POG does- sit on your ass eating 3 squares a day and repeating the stories you hear real combat vets tell.

Oh, I quoted the original poster, but once you got into the mix, I just had to draw you out. I'm surprised you didn't throw in the "racist pig", "baby killer", and "drug addicted alcoholic" which would have completed the stereotype. You're busted guy...you know I know who you are; you're adolescent rage just confirmed what I already knew. You just can't help yourself. See ya' 'bama. Oh, and POG is a bottled Hawaii drink, POGUE is a term we use for non-combatants; ever been to Hawaii....I'm sure you have.;)

Got 2 izulas....Neither suffer from dulling by sheath in and outing or sitting. In fairness one gets used allot the other not much at all.

Curious for the follow up on what was going on.

To the OP-- just wondering if it is possible that you are dragging the edge when sheathing/deploying the blade?

And guys... W&C

Never had an issue with my Izula. Be careful that you're not dragging the edge on the side of the sheath when deploying it from its sheath.

Izulas have personality , use them hard and often they stay sharp , leave them sitting unused and they go blunt as an act of rebellion

I know I have 2 of them

I keep my blades oiled and put them away hair whittling sharp , but if I carry another blade for a month or so , when I get back to my Izula , its lost that scary edge .. I blame oxidation .

I dont think its the sheath because I know for fact that my blade has taken lumps out of it when I was sloppy putting it away , no damage to the blade , only me and the sheath .

Your situation may well be different and the plastic may be really dulling your blade . Id be looking close at it tho if it is .. this shouldnt be the case even with an artificial knock off of one .

You can't be a baby killer if you never left the wire now can you?

The website has an ignore user function. I suggest you use it. It's not worth the typing.

Back on topic. Yeah, esee has some great customer service. Glad you got squared away.

Can always count on you to post a rude comment....
That being said, I emailed ESEE and Mike got back to me right away, took my address and will be sending out a new sheath to me. A++ customer service right there. He asked that I send my sheath back to them so that they can troubleshoot it.

Awesome, good to hear they took care of you I figured they would. Jeff offered to take care of mine too but it didn't bother me enough to want to send it in and another guy sent me an old one he had.

Alnamvet68,

You seem to have got kind of hung up on the whole "economy line" comment, I'm not sure why. Do you own any other ESEE knives? I have a 3 and a 4 and the fit and finish ( things Doc mentioned he felt lacking on the Izula ) are better than that of the Izula. It's not saying anything against the quality of the company, but the Izula is basically your entry-level ESEE knife. It's very good and high quality in my opinion, in fact it's my favorite knife and I carry it daily. However when we're talking about fit and finish and build quality, the work they put into matching scales to models like the ESEE 3 and ESEE 4 goes above that put into the Izula. Which only makes sense, considering the Izula is sold as a skeletonized neck knife so the handles are meant to be an optional afterthought and aren't fitted as well. The sheath on the Izula also while really nice, isn't quite as "secure" as that of the 3 and the 4. And in this instance, is dulling a knife.

I was just trying to let the guy know the build quality on other models was higher, anticipating he might want one of those one day. Frankly the Izula while a fine knife just isn't a good reprsentative of the attention they pay to fit and finish in the other models. So what you interpreted as me trying to sandbag the Izula was actually me trying to endorse their other models.

I think I must have gotten ripped off bigtime with my Izula II
Mine came with a sheath that has a split built in that kinda prevents the cuting edge contacting the sheath at all unless some weird angles are used to sheath / unsheath it

and the actual plastic the sheath is made from , is too soft to bother the edge any anyway even if it IS jammed in and out of the sheath at weird angles .. I can even carve on it with no noticeable dulling or damage to the edge

I must have gotten a fake or just a substandard sheath .

Im interested to know how you get on warranty wise tho .

It dosent look like a fake mine looks like that u can see the lines in the sheath I got mine from usamadeblades here in NC so I know mines real. Its got to be something else. you said u pulled it out like 100 times I think the plastic will dull the knife if u run the blade across it enuff times most any thing will really

I have at 2 or 3 of the Izula II and every other knife ESEE makes aside from the Laser Strike. I've used my Izula II for the past 3 deer seasons (2 deer each season) and it has done quite well. I sharpen it on the Spyderco Sharpmaker just prior to deer season and it has been plenty sharp whenever I needed it. I don't find that the Izula is of lower quality than any of their other knives, though that's been my observation only. In general the sheaths are the big positive of ESEE knives. The folks at ESEE seem to take great care with having the right sheaths, which is one of the reasons it makes for such a nice system (and not just simply a knife). I can see where some sheaths might not be as good as others but in my experience quality control is very good.

I have probably used my knife thousands of times not just hundreds .Its a daily user for the last couple years I think at least . Mine goes blunt from use tho well usually abuse ... with a warranty like its got , its has to be tough , so it doesnt get babied , but the OP is the one who has had the issues with his knife losing its hair popping edge just putting it into and out of the sheath for practice .

Id go with his edge oxidized away in boredom .. I have had it happen to other knives I have . I dont know for sure tho .
