I finally have enough money to get a big blade and i am totally psyched, though i have an interesting habit of buying a knife impulsively and wanting something different a week later so i was hoping for some pros and cons real quick. Ive looked at 20 different threads but i got to be sure!

Esee Junglas vrs Becker BK 9?

Whats the price tag on the puppy? I have read quite a few horror stories on Bark River Goloks chipping so im a bit wary of BR.

Best to check the dealer sites for pricing.

There's a certain moderator that would probably poke me with a cattle prod for talking price.

Chipping?, Ive been testing the prototype (A2) for over a year without issue.

The production version features an even tougher steel (5160).

The junglas is the nicer knife of the two, better handle material, better fit and finish, better coating, better heat treatment, better warrenty, and more pride of ownership. I havnt used a bk9 so i cant comment on performance.

IMO both are good choppers. Both work well for carving and general camp chores. The ESEE handle has a better grip, the Becker handle has better contour. I'd recommend either one.

Junglas is a giant chopping beast, though hardly anything else. The 9 is a big knife, it can chop very well and do other knife tasks fairly well. The big difference is if you want a machete for chopping wood and not much else the junglas is the best in the business, if you want a versatile chopper and big bowie that can do small knife tasks get a bk 9. I have a bk9 and am happy I do, the junglas is a different animal and not one I have much use for.

If choosing is difficult I would go with the BK 9. Then put the money saved toward your next purchase.

I also upgraded to micarta and kydex and I'm still in it for less than a junglas price.

I was looking at the prices for the BK 9 and the costs of the upgrade which i woul most definitley do if i went with the BK 9. The kydex would be 40 and the handles would be 35 - around 155 the junglas would be about 165.

how much do you have to spend?

I have around $200 to spend

I love the BK 9 bowie shape, and like hardtripper said the Esee's a machete and the Becker's a BIG knife. I think im gonna go with the Esee just because i want a machete or short sword as i already have an esee e. In case the zombies invade.

You will not regret getting a Junglas, its in a class of its own. As mentioned, great warranty, heat treat, handles, sheath. The whole package is top notch.
Pair it up with a 4" fixed blade or even a quality folder and you are covered. Nothing against Becker, I have a BK2 and like it very much but between the BK9
and Junglas its the ESEE all the way for me. You can always pick up the 9 down the road but after handling the Junglas you may not have the desire.

I like the Junglas too. A quick test one day with 4" of dry African Sumac, with a paper test at the end. Not a real torture test, but I'm not into breaking stuff.

Perhaps you should look at a Scrapyard 911 in that price range as well.
