esee junglas or bk 9

To me the ESEE knives are over all better products than Beckers from my own experiences but they do cost a bit more. They have a better warranty, better heat treat, and lord knows a better sheath (I think they have some of the best stock sheaths of any knife you can buy).

Beckers are great knives for what you pay but the BK16 I had didnt hold a candle to my ESEE 3 in any way shape or form.

I own a Junglas and played with a BK9 a couple of weekends ago. Most of the comments above are spot on. The Junglas has a nicer finish, is a little more solid and chops better. However, in regard to the bowie aspect the BK9 is only an inch shorter at most, and I'm not sure it really fits the camp "knife" profile any better than the Junglas. I see them both as good, durable choppers. Neither works great as a machete either. In the end you will need a small knife to pair with either the Junglass or BK9. I don't think you would be wrong in choosing either.

i have a BK7! not a BK9 but i love it!!!!! though my friend has a junglas. that thing is SICK!!!!!! its all in your personal opinnion cause you cant go wrong either way!

I don't own a Junglas, so i can't comment on it. I do have a 9 and i have to say the knife is just a beast. You could baton a chevy in two if you had to. Total workhorse, exceeded all my expectations and then some.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Junglas too, I couldn't afford one at the time i was looking for a good dedicated chopper/work knife and someday will most definitely pick one up.

ESEE technically has a better warranty, but the KABAR one is, for all practicality purposes, the same.

I don't meant to derail the thread or anything, but can I ask why you say the BK16 isn't as good as your ESEE-3?

I own a BK-16 and an ESEE-3/4 and I've used all 3 pretty extensively. I find I really enjoy using the BK16 since it's not quite as thick as the ESEE-4 but still has around the same blade length, I'm just curious of your opinion that's all.

The only advantage the BK has is initial price, but in the long run the Junglas is leaps ahead.

Well the junglas is awesome, incredibly good feel to it. Its a hell of a chopper + great slicer and the sheath is fantastic. Funny thing is that i still kinda want a bk9, i love the bowie blade on it. :p

Do the micarta handles for bk7 work on the bk9? I really dislike the factory plastic handles on all the BK's, they are very slick and would prefer micarta. But the issue is those micarta handles are expensive and bring the price of the BK10 to the level of the Junglas, at which point why get the BK9.

I'd say BK9 all day. The handle is ultimately more comfortable and the overall dimensions are friendlier. The handle on the Junglas feels too flat and wide. Hardly ergonomic at all. I was really convinced the Junglas was going to be better until I got my hands on it. But it does have a much nicer sheath.

I had a Junglas, everything was perfect, but the handle was too big for my hand and it always felt like I was going to loose it while using it. I have three BK9 knives now and they fit my hand perfect. Now the BK9 F&F is not quite up to the ESEE, but it's still a good knife.

I believe so. I have had a bk 2 before and i found the handles to be okay. I actually ended up dropping the bk 2 on my foot, and that thing weighs a pound so it hurt. It was my fault though for choking down and chopping with-ought a lanyard. You can always add inter-tubing or tennis wrap to help with grip. Ill definitely end up getting a bk 9 somewhere down the line though.

I like the handle, it seems to work really well for me. The blade is also awesome with (i think it is) that high saber grind. It also feels more like a small-sword than a knife.

Do you have the micarta handles for your becker?

All of the fullsize beckers (RBK-BK10 and Ritter colab) use the same scales so micarta for one will fit any of them.

I'm a huge fan of the Junglas fer sure.

I've tried to like the BK9 but it did nothing for me. I've even sold one just to end up getting another to give it another shot. The second one only lasted a few weeks before it was sold too.

Not trying to be an arse here, but if you think that the junglas handle is too big, then you either have very small hands or you actually had an RTAK, which does indeed have a very wide handle. The junglas handle is not large at all and if I still had my BK9 I'd measure them and prove that the BK handle might actually be larger

That is what I figured but never had a bk7, and it seems to be the one listed when you see micarta handles for sale. I had the BK9, Brute and BK2.

I have been looking at both of these blades too. I’d have a hard time deciding as the BK seem rock solid, but the ESEE has the warrantee. I’m on a budget right now, and I went with a Cold Steel Kukri, it was around $20, so at least I have a chopper smaller than machete size. If you have the bucks I vote Junglas as a package deal, or go with a Kydex on a BK9.

The ESEE warranty is better on paper but for all intents and purposes they are the same. If you break a becker Ka-Bar will replace it.

I like the esee. That said, my big knife fetish ended years ago with my camp tramp sitting in my sock drawer about 1 hour after I received it. I sold it (8 years later).

People say these knives are good camp knives. I'm not too sure what they are doing around a camp that my folding saw and small blade cannot. my point is, if you want a blade like this, go for it, but think about carrying a regular knife too.
