Hi ppl,

I've been looking at the esee junglas, can anyone tell me if it is suitable to be used as a thrusting / stabbing weapon?

If not any alternatives?

If a pencil, pen, or sharpened toothbrush handle for that matter can be used for thrusting then I'm sure that a 10" blade with a needle point could also be effectively used if necessary. It was designed to be a large camp knife though, not a weapon. My question is, given its size, where exactly you'd expect to carry it on the off chance you should encounter that one-in-a-million self defence scenario?

I think the belly of the blade is a little big. I know esee designed it for counter narcotics team / military. It's obviously a good chopper.

Why do ppl always have to ask why I'm asking lol ? I'm not a murderer.

But should I have a cougar jump on my back, or im confronted by a wild boar, or a black bear, will the junglas be a good weapon?

In b4 get a gun

If I really wanted to defend myself from a big animal with any of my blades, I would definitely pick my Junglas.

Maybe because it actually helps people give you an answer.

"What's the best knife to cut something?"

"What are you cutting?" is a good response. Are you cutting apples? Are you cutting boxes? Are you cutting branches? Same applies for stabbing something. What "it" is is important to know. Just saying.

The junglas tip was surprisingly thin. Very stabby. The width of the blade would slow it down most I think.

i dont know how handy you are with a sander but you could also add a penetrator style swedge kinda idea if youre not going to use the point for prying wood. my esee rc 4 did pretty good in cardboard. and the izula got burried up to the handle. but so did unsharpened broken point knife we tried, so i dont know, to me stabbing is stabbing. i heard a saran wrapped carrot was used in prison recently, guess well have to banish produce as a dangerous weapon. stock up now!

Mjolnir and good shepherd, thanks for the replies.

And for everyone else, all I want to know is the tactical uses of the junglas and your killing me for it.

Supposed to be a knife forum for enthusiasts, how about recommending me some 10inch(blade) plus tactical knives instead of firing sarcasm at me.

I can't win, if I don't give a reason for asking my question I get grilled by robertk and when I give reasons, i get mocked by retzius.

It doesnt say it is designed for military use it just says counter-narc and jungle operations, that doesn't mean it was designed as a mili knife.

From what I'm seeing, it's only retzius being snarky at you. The fact that you are being overly defensive about the whole murder thing is somewhat worrying but if you want us to give you recommendations for a knife you do need to tell us what you want to do with it. Do you want a camp knife that can be used to stab things or a knife that's primarily for stabbing? Budget? Weight? Specific materials you want? There are a lot of questions to ask.

I don't know what Junglas others are looking at, but mine is not particularly pointy. Going from 0 to 1 7/8" wide in 2.5" is not what I'd call "designed for piercing". Cougars usually attack by stealth, jumping their prey from behind, and the Junglas would be rather unwieldy in that situation. The handle is well-designed and gives a secure grip with little or no danger of slipping forward onto the blade in a thrust, so it would be effective for thrusting and slashing against a frontal assault I suppose.

Quick question regarding the Junglass. How much difference in terms of quality and durability is there between the Esee Junglas and the Ontario RTAK-II?

I want a short sword which doubles up as a bush knife, something like the mbb m-4 (miller bros)
Minimum 10inch blade
Minimum 0.2inch thick blade (junglas is 0.188, which I think may be too flexible as a thrusting weapon)
Weight under 2.5lb
Budget $300
Needs 100% reliability (For this reason I have been looking at bussekin and esee only so far, I've seen youtube videos of most other knife brands failing)
