Esee junglas

I want a short sword which doubles up as a bush knife, something like the mbb m-4 (miller bros)
Minimum 10inch blade
Minimum 0.2inch thick blade (junglas is 0.188, which I think may be too flexible as a thrusting weapon)
Weight under 2.5lb
Budget $300
Needs 100% reliability (For this reason I have been looking at bussekin and esee only so far, I've seen youtube videos of most other knife brands failing)

Just want to start off by saying that you don't need a knife beyond .15" thick to stab most animals (flesh is significantly easier to cut through than trees or rocks). Also, take a look at the Himalayan Imports subforum here. They have swords and big knives with differentially hardened 5160 and are built like tanks with .25"-.5" stocks.

If you think the Junglas is too flexible, heaven help you. I'm not exactly tiny or weak, and I can barely flex the blade without locking it in a vise. Unless you're planning to slay stone golems with it, or you wear purple pants and have green skin, I wouldn't worry about it.

Nothing made by man is 100% reliable. Everything has limits, and there is always someone out there who will exceed them.

This is the thin tip I was referring to. A Burke random task folder on right and Junglas on left. As I said the width would slow a stab down. I had thought it wouldn't be as thin at the point as a Sebenza.

I have seen a video of a Junglas stabbing through a Wild Boar and it went through with ease! I think the Junglas would work for what your need/concerns are!

The Junglas was designed for counter narcotics forces but I don't believe it was a weapons. If I remember correctly it wasn't even a heavy chopper and was meant for cutting lighter Vegitation ( think small machete) as well as handle camp chores.

I will save you the inquisition as to why you would want to carry something like that and go straight to the recommendation.

If you want something that will stab and thrust better than anything else out there I would look at the Cold Steel OSS. It's 8 1/4 inches and double sided with a sub hilt. I used to have one but no more because it had no practical purpose for me. If you look on the Internet there is a video testimony of a big game hunter caring one in Africa as a back up weapon and ends up killing a charging Cape buffalo with it. Honestly it's nothing I would want to get stabbed with. With that it mind it doesn't do much else other than stab.

I get grilled by robertk…

Really, bro, you call my comment above a "grilling?" You asked why people asked you what you wanted to stab. I gave you a clear, and non-sarcastic answer as to why the "what are you trying to do?" is a very relevant question for you to get an answer to your question.

If you don't provide that, it's not really all that clear what you're really asking, so I don't know how you expect a good answer. It's like me asking people what the best rental car for me is, but me feigning offense when people ask me how how fast I want to go or how many people I take with me or how far, or what I am carrying.

Honestly, I don't see how asking or clarification of an unclear request is such an offensive thrust.

I think the belly of the blade is a little big. I know esee designed it for counter narcotics team / military. It's obviously a good chopper.

Why do ppl always have to ask why I'm asking lol ? I'm not a murderer.

But should I have a cougar jump on my back, or im confronted by a wild boar, or a black bear, will the junglas be a good weapon?

In b4 get a gun

Hi again.

Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been pounced on by a cougar, had a stand off with a wild boar, or been in a deadly confrontation with a black bear? If not, what do you honestly think is the chance that will ever happen?

Im not mocking you. Im trying to get you to think a little bit differently. A thick heavy knife is going to be heavy. A heavy knife is not much fun to carry around for a long period of time, especially if you are only carrying it to defend yourself from rogue critters.

Think about what things you really use a knife for. Make a list of those things and be honest with yourself regarding how big a knife you need to complete those tasks. Reality and the internet/Youtube are often, in my experience, not even remotely similar ;)

If you are that concerned about wildlife, carry some bear spray. Even better, tie a bell to a walking stick. Amazingly, some jingling bells, even in non-tactical black, usually scare away 99% of most critters.

Have fun.

I was escorted out of the woods after a hunt last year by a boar. I had let him walk while on my stand. He must have stayed close by, because he followed me noisily to my 4wheeler. Pigs aren't really masters of stealth. He had good cutters and was maybe around 200lbs.
