Esee Knives what's with the E-5?

Why the departure from the blueprint and make the 5 so heavy with .25in blade? I would love a 3/16 E-5 w/o the fire hole in the scales. Possibility?

There is one that is that size with a thinner blade called the Laser Strike. Search around on that for a bit, I think they may start producing them sometime.....but for now I think the folder is taking up the most of the development time.

While I can't speak to the possibilities of a new version of the 5, the current one is designed as it is due to the intended use of pilots cutting their way out of a downed helicopter. It needs to be big, heavy, and able to take a lot of abuse. Thus the larger size...... at least thats how it was explained to me.

considering it's 2 different shops working on them, we may see them about the same time.

The 5 was designed to be a worst case, get out of hell knife. It's perfect for that.

edit: the 6 is the perfect, perfect thinner knife.

i love the "5" just the way it is :) mine's IWB as i type this. the only time it isn't.... is when it's OWB :D or laying on my night stand, whilst i sleep (no, i'm not a Brit, i just love that word).

i think my 5 is more closely related to my Cold Steel Trench Hawk than it is to the other ESEE knives. they're both "Smashtastik"

For me the 5 fits a perfect spot as it is. If I can carry a large chopper (like a machete or my battle mistress) I usually do that, but sometimes I am hiking in areas where people would be looking suspiciously on a guy with a large blade. Then with the 5 I have a great beast of a knife with good chopping ability in quite a short blade which I can carry concealed. It fits perfectly inside a Maxpedition belt pouch and the handle is hidden under my shirt.

We didn't design the 5, some SERE instructors contacted us and told us what they wanted. So, that's how that happened ;)

wow, now this is pretty intresting. did you design the all of the other models in the line up?

btw - the lack of "shock factor" is one reason i EDC the 5. it's the most knife i can carry w/o feeling like everyone is staring at me, yet i feel like i could use it to dig myself out of a building that crumbled around me or a porta potty that one of my douche nozzle friends might decide to lock me in :D

i've owned several knives and the 5 is one of ONLY TWO that i have ever used the word "tank" to describe. the other was a Cold Steel Recon Tanto.

ETA - i haven't tried it yet, but i'm thinking the "glass breaker" would word great for crackin coconuts. i don't mean that as a metaphor for human skulls, i really mean coconuts :D

Got a chance to handle a 5, it's one hell of a knife. Feels really substantial in your hand. Too big for EDC, in my opinion, but I can't think of a better knife for a true survival situation. I really want to get one in the next year to take on long treks.

The ESEE5 is perfect just the way it is, IMO. There is only one knife I think is better. And thats the one that I carry.

Well thought out, tough as woodpecker lips, and can definetly take the punishment anyone puts out. Save from throwing it into a tree, or taking a cutting torch to it, I don't think you'll ever have to worry about this knife letting you down.

Why carry a knife when you can carry a gun? Too heavy for EDC IMO.

BK2 is in the house

why not carry both?

I carry either a Esee 6, BK7 or BK2 as my EDC....never had any problems

Because guns suck for prying stuff!

Knives are everything you need up to the point where you need a gun. I find myself in that place where my problems arnt trying to kill me.And besides if faced with a gun I would draw my ESEE-5 and place it flat on my chest and I would be bullet proof.LOL

When Ethan says throwing his knives are stupid, is there going to be a massive Becker Sale? :D

Ethan has always said throwing knives are stupid. He's got scars to prove how stupid it really is.:D I doubt you will see anyone going on a mad rush to sell off all thier Beckers anytime soon. I'm hoping to take my BK9 to a Hog or Bear soon. We'll see.

like Flexx (i think it was) said - i carry both. every day, if i'm dressed, i have a semi auto and a fixed blade :) i tend to use the knife A LOT more than i use the pistol.

Not doubting the logic, I carry a gun and folder everyday(actually an Izula here lately). But the 5 is one big heavy mother! :D I would hate to lug that and a pistol around every day.
