Esee Knives what's with the E-5?

Not doubting the logic, I carry a gun and folder everyday(actually an Izula here lately). But the 5 is one big heavy mother! :D I would hate to lug that and a pistol around every day.

To your point, the 5 would not be on my list for defense weapons. Something that heavy and short (for its weight) would only be a reasonable choice if nothing better was available (in my ignorant opinion).

The 5 is a tool (and toy) for me.

I have the luxury of being inexperienced in using a knife for self defense and that is why I say "ignorant".

eh, it's a breeze compared to what i lug around when i'm on duty. i guess it's a 'swing two bats' kinda thing, ya kno. i wear about 20# worth the gear, while i'm at work. so, (off duty) the 5, a burner, and a small flashlight is pretty light :)

truth be told, the PHONE is the most likely to get kicked off the team. i'm kind of missin the days BEFORE cell phones :(

don't get me wrong, i see where you're coming from, i've done the folder thing and i totally get why people love 'em so much. darn things are seriously convenient, just not my cup o' tea.

and as far as the 5 being a SD tool - true there are better 'fighters' out there, but i feel it would do the job adequately compared to trying to use a fighter for all the 5 can handle, if that makes any sense at all.

ETA - my EDC knife, before the 5, was an Ontario SP42. before that, it was a BM Nimravus. i've never been a small knife guy lol

It doesn't seem that large to me. I'm all about cutting the handle off of my toothbrush to save weight, but some things are just going to be heavy... If anything you get used to it provided you're carrying it all the time - how do overweight people carry their "excess" weight? I know a few "heavy" runners that can easily smoke me.

The REALLY funny thing is a buddy at work approached me to make him a sheath for his RMD - he wanted to be able to jump it - dangler/leg strap.. AND I thought why would he want that for something that small??? I even told him to check out the ESEE 5. I've even been working on a sheath for another RMD to give to a friend. It's going to be a horizontal and vertical carry because the RMD is kind of a mid size knife....

Look at this shizzit:

Simply didn't cross my mind they were so close to the same length. It's amazing what a little more heft can do for a knife - some feel it makes it too heavy, some just right ;)

Ah got it. I have a fatty game warden I bought used for a good deal, but I don't like a lot of the Busse/Swamprat/Junkyard or whatever knives. Too 'collectible' for me with all of the different limited editions, color options and limited time of availability. That looks like a good knife, though.

i love the "5" just the way it is :) mine's IWB as i type this. the only time it isn't.... is when it's OWB :D or laying on my night stand, whilst i sleep (no, i'm not a Brit, i just love that word).

i think my 5 is more closely related to my Cold Steel Trench Hawk than it is to the other ESEE knives. they're both "Smashtastik"

I too love the words whilst and puffer, bloody and bugger.

I think it would work great as a fighter, just the weight alone would turn a person inside out, you get hit with a blade (.25") 1/4" thick is going to open you up with some serious athority.

I used to work in a bucher shop and a thicker blade will just separate meat with no problems, you can actually hear it when cutting....

I got MY 5 due to my3 impressing me so. I take it every where the 5 that is , just shove it IWB - SOB and go. A great addition to my Kimber Stainless Target stoked with 230 grn. mind changers.
