I am looking for a larger knife to add to my pack... I will already be carrying an esee 3, candiru, and a leatherman so I will have light tasks pretty much covered.... Call me crazy but I will also be carrying a large bowie knife (13 In. Blade) with me for snakes, bears, etc.. Hopefully will not have to use it for that purpose but it will be fun to have out in the woods anyways. Im a huge knife junkie, so im willing to add the extra couple pounds onto my pack to be able to enjoy using a few more of them. ...anyways, I am looking for a knife to handle all of the heavy tasks that I can throw at it efficiently. I will be building shelters and chopping with it mostly, but who knows what I will have to throw at it, as it will be my main go-to knife for heavy tasks. I am leaning towards the laser strike, but have also considered the 5 and 6. I am by no means committing myself only to esee though, so if anyone has other suggestions feel free. Thanks for the help!

ESEE 6.

Though the 5 is a 'tank', IMO, it's too heavy. Same with the Kabar Becker BK2.

Out of those my vote is for the 6 without question. I have plenty of large fixed blades but the 6 is my favorite and gets the most use. I recently picked up a spyderco woodlander though and that's going to be a strong contender. Screw the Laser Strike get the 6.

I like my Junglas. I considered buying the 6 as well, but similar to you I already have a 3 and an Izula 2 for lighter stuff.

good cheap machete. thickness and shape depends on what kind of woods you are going to be in. if your hung up on just having a big knife, couple of beckers or junglas.

13" + blade is not real useful on snakes or bears. unless they are paralyzed or already dead. forget that plan. for woods work and fun....right on.

I say the 6. It is a jack of all trades master of none. My favorite Esee is the Junglas though.
