Esee model recommendations?

I’ve had a 3, 4, and 6. Still own the 3, and it was my edc for 3-4 years straight. It’s been used hard and was great for almost anything I needed to cut, and carries very well (I carried it inverted).

The 6 was fine but other inexpensive knives were just as good and more comfortable in hand. I found the 4 to be a bit too thick.

I EDC carried the RAT3 (D2)- ESEE3 - and the BK14 (KaBar/ESEE collaboration) I liked the BK14 the best out of the 3.
What turns me off is the thick powder coating. I had to strip them all.

I've never had a problem with the thickness of an ESEE 5/6 but YMMV.

You could always go to the KnifeConnection (where I got my 5) and get G10 contoured handles for a Laser Strike. The LS is .19 vs .25 for the 4/5/6 if you want something a little thinner. The Laser Strike is another good choice.
The 4 & 6 are .19" like the LS. They are also FF ground vs the saber on the 5. Makes a big difference IMO.

It’s just a great all around blade. Small enough to edc yet it can handle 95% of your camping and hunting chores, Now available in s35v, it also makes for a nice outdoor food prep knife.
He's using his as EDC, his only complain was extremley tight sheath retention, but he took care of that with a file.

The 5 might be the perfect size; but the quarter inch thick blade impacts it's general utility, IMO. *disclaimer* I sold my Esee 5, unused - I'm basing my statement on other 5.25" blades of that thickness. Though the appeal of a virtually indestructible, sharpened crowbar is hard to deny (that's why I bought it in the first place, after all)

I agree about the 5. It isn't very good at being a knife.

Exactly. The 5 is a thick chunk that does nothing well, except not break (same as the BK2). The 3, 4, and 6 are excellent.

I guess I never realized the 5 was thicker then everything else. I still love my 5.

The Esee 3HM has been in my pack and helped me bring elk and mule deer from the mountain to the dinner table (think quartering, not merely field dressing) for several years now. Good ergonomics and thin blade stock makes for a great working blade.
