ESEE Pack Kit Availability

i totally disagree my friend.. the back of the ESEE5 is thicker than the 6 for battonning/chopping/splitting woods.. i got both and find the ESEE5 a better wood knife.. at least for what i do in wilderness survival.. and love that knife.. its just something about holding a tank in your hand that make me smile

The six is better for all around bushcraft if that is your plan. KNIFEABILITY-a must for all humans

better how ? if the ESEE5 is too heavy, you can always lift some weight first.. get in shape..
please elaborate on your theory ? is it better because you own an ESEE6 ? we got so many bushcraft expert around here!

Man, it's almost...ALMOST like people are intitled to their opinions around here.

mbassoc2003 which country are you based in? If in Western Europe I might be able to help you out (if you're not in a hurry :D)
I'm in the UK.
Look forward to your site opening. Normally I'd go through Hennie Haynes for something like this, but their mark up tends to be quite high on one off orders like this.

I'm really not sure about the blade. Partial seration, particularly with the way ESEE do serations, seem to be prudent, but they only seem to be available on the 5. I had thought the 5 and 6 were the same blade thickness, but someone has caused me to rethink that. And a long time ago I used to have an old Ont Rat-7 which was a brute of a knife, and TBH a little too much like a machete for the UK woodland. Maybe a 6 is a happy medium, so I'll need to go away and rethink my strategy.

In the meantime I'll build a dinky kit around my Izula with a Barnacle I just bought, and make the most of my HEST and my trusty old TAK-1 which is starting to feel old and clumsy.

Funny how the styling of some blades just dates while others do not.

Cheers for the great feedback, guys. Would like a really good detailed review of the Pack Kit if anyone feels up to it. I take it the sleeve is universal and takes all the blades?

All of the ESEE blades (except the izula) are available plain or combo edged.
the sleeve in the pack kit is sized for the ESEE 5 & 6, but sleeves for the 3 & 4 are supposed to be in the works.
the spine on the ESEE 4, 6, & HEST is 3/16" (.188), the ESEE 5 is 1/4" (.25) thick.
The ESEE 6 is an updated/improved design, very similar to the Ontario RAT 7 (designed by the same guy) so if you thought the RAT7 was too long, you may feel the same about the ESEE6.
Handles on the 5 & 6 are similar to those on the TAK-1. (not exact, but close - I was comparing them on Saturday when my kit showed)

hope this helps m8
