ESEE Question?

I have a few ESEE's. I've noticed there's a big difference, in the feel, between the 5 and the Junglas. Obviously the 5 is thicker, but I'm referring to how blocky the handle scales are. Whereas, on the Junglas, they are nice and rounded off. What I'm trying to figure out now is - would the 6 have the same feel as the Junglas, due to it's blade being the same thickness? Or are those nice contoured scales only a Junglas thing? I'm asking because I'm starting to think I need a 6CP. If the handle feels like the Junglas, I'm sure I do :-D

Thanx.

In my opinion, the 5 is perfection when it comes to ergonomy. But then again, I have bear paws. I don't think it is blocky at all, it feels nice and countoured enough to me. I can chop with this thing all day... I think you will be very pleased. Oh, and I must say: the ESSE-5 is the production knife with the best fit anf finish that I've ever had. The edge came so sharp with perfect symetrical angles on both sides not to mention a perfect tip, pointy as hell. I had many thin full flat grind folders with tips way blunter than that... I highly recommend this knife to anyone wating a high quality, non-nonsense hard use survival/utility knife. It is a beast of a knife, not much different from your average Busse. (A piece of very sharp railroad track and I love it!)

Cheers!

Yea, I've edc 'd one, for quite awhile now. I agree with almost everything u've said, it is one awesome knife. However I think it feels like a brick compared to the Junglas. U can look at the scales, on the two of them, and see they're worlds apart. I just need to know which one the 6 feels more like.

I don't have the 6 (yet).

the 6 would feel more like the junglas... however if you put liners on the junglas it would lean to feeling more like the 5...

I don't have any of those knives but I know that the scales on the 5 and 6 are the same shape and size, they're actually interchangeable.
The 6 doesn't have contoured scales like the Junglas if that's what you're asking but I'd imagine it would feel less like a brick than the 5 due to its thinner blade.

Here's a thread that has a comparison picture of the Junglas, ESEE 5 and 6 in the second post, maybe that'll help.

I have all three of the knives, the 5 and 6 feel pretty much exactly the same grip and scale wise, i put a set of scales from a 5 on one of my 6s. the junglas has a much more contoured grips.

esee is selling the scales seperatly now on their website if you guys didnt know it.

take it easy

Cool, I appreciate it guys. I knew the obvious difference of the blade itself being thicker on the 5 over the 6, but the big difference in feel (between the 5 and the Junglas) is not due to the blade thickness so much as the scale thickness and shape. I'm actually a little disappointed to hear the 5 and 6 both have the same thickness of scales :-( I was hoping that they had used the fact that the blade is thinner to put some thicker scales on the 6 and then contour them a little. Guess not.

the scales on the 5 are slightly thicker than the 6 very slightly, you only notice it when you swap them out with a 5s scales, and when you sheath the knife. they arn't contoured any differntly though.
