esee/rc-6...????

Hi beestokk. I bought an ESEE 6 about a month ago to test how tough they are, and the 6 went WAY past my point of object. It is one of the toughest knifes ever made. And size is as close to perfect as one would want, not bulky, heavy, or just in the way. With the molle Back, you can attach it in many different ways, even upside down. But the "Grip" I will tell you something that I have NEVER mentioned here. I have both Ostio and RA, arthritis. This makes things hell to do, but I don't stop because I have an issue with pain. Accually this is another reason I picked and use an ESEE 6, as I have to wear braces on both wrists (I tape them up heavy before my testing so my wrists don't move to much) Even with this junk in my way, My 6 I can hold on to with ease. I am thinking about cricket dave's idea though. I'm just gonna file groves in where I want them, and then a buff over. But as I see it. Yes get a 6. You will be very happy with your choice. Enjoy. edgy

Hey I think we should start a "6 PACK" what Ya'll think?

I do like all 4 models RC3/4/5/6. I didn't know which one to get so I order all 4 knives. After comparing side by side. I kept a RC4 and RC6.

A RC3 is shorter then RC4 and I do have plenty of other knives that have same length as RC3. So RC3 is going back and RC4 is a keeper.

The RC5 is too heavy for my application used. For my intend is for bpacking so the RC5 weight is a no go. Whereas RC6 has longer blade and much lighter to handle. My back will appreciated this RC6.

Unless you are car camping or a pilot or on a mission to brake down a steel door, a RC5 is go to go. Otherwise, stay with a RC6.

thanks guys! the 6-pack sounds good to me...once i get mine i'm in! prob ordering this weekend!

soooooo after a rough day at work today i decided to just go ahead and place my order for an rc-6 plain edge with green sheath, green molle back, and the deluxe dmt aligner set with 4 stones (x-fine, fine, coarse, and x-coarse...this is for general use with all my knives). finally pulled the trigger on it all...it seemed to be the right time. looking forward to the arrival of the goods and then putting them to use! thanks so much for your help!

I can say unequivocally that you will love the 6. It's is simply a great knife. I ended up getting a 3 as well for those occasions when 12" of steel won't fit in my pack, but I still feel that the 6 is the best all-around knife in the ESEE lineup - my opinion of course.

I am a huge fan of the RC6 it is one of my favorite blades...weighted to my liking, grip is nice, design is perfect for bushcraft. However the sheath...well not my favorite. Especially since ESEE is more than capable of producing the best sheaths from a factory. The RC4 sheath is amazing! The Molle Back is one of my favorite and versatile designs around. But you mentioned the S1. This is a tough choice. I love and have both. The grind is different, length and steel. So is far from an apples to apples comparison. To be honest both are incredible and I really cant think you can go wrong.

As for the BK2 I have no experience with it yet but I dont think it is as versatile as the other two mention above. Many comparisons dont seem to include this blade against and S1 or a RC6. Now an RC5 yes. But still an excellent blade.

Thanks Dallas! Soap box what don't you like about the sheath? Do you have the accessory molle back? Is it the molded plastic vs kydex? Please elaborate if you don't mind! Other input relative to the sheath are welcome too! Can't wait to check it out myself and make my own opinion!! Thanks all!!

The 6 sheath rides high with the molle locks when attached to your belt and it is plastic compared to kydex. The 6 is a pretty big knife so mounting it lower on the hip would be a plus...this standard plastic sheath can be slightly improved with the clip plate attachment but it is minimum. As for the 4/5/Junglas, the Kydex they come in are far more rigid and sturdy. With the 6 also I find, the knife doesnt quite lock in as securely as the kydex version on the RC5, 4, and junglas. I think they skimped on the RC6 Sheath compared to the others. It is still a decent sheath but the other have spoiled me.

The S1 sheath is nothing special either...but it just does enough to make it work right. I do like it but dont love it. It is more rigid, mounts lower on the hip when attached to the belt. And the lock/catch seems to work pretty good. It is also small and light yet strong. It is plastic but thicker than the RC6 one. S1 is a fine knife and the sheath is just average. I do like the S1 sheath a little better than the RC6 plastic sheath.

Thanks for the input! I ordered the molle back (which to me seemed just as good if not better than the molle back for the other models) with mine, so hopefully that'll make a good difference as far as where the blade rides on the belt. I haven't had a kydex sheath ever, and this is my first RAT/ESEE blade, so hopefully the sheath will seem top notch to me ha! It does seem odd that they didn't use kydex on the 6 though...any one know why not? I have read a post by Mike, I think, that commented on the plastic being more heat resistant than kydex but the trade off is its retainment may sooner loosen up over time. worse case i'll replace it when necessary or have a kydex sheath made. it definitely didn't seem reason enough to not buy the knife, and i'm assuming you'd agree soapbox. when i get mine I'll let you know my thoughts!

hi, the 3 and 6 and izula were the first knives designed and they ponied up for the machinery to make the plastic injection molded sheaths for those. the 4, 5 and junglas all came later and they went with the kydex.

as for me i've been using the 6 pretty hard for almost a year now in the plastic sheath and have no problems with it. the fabric molle back puts the knife down on my hip where it should be instead of up high which i dont like with a knife that size. when you add the pouch it gives you one of the most versitle and durable sheath systems i've used.

take it easy

The Molle Back is the ticket to making it a stellar setup. As Cricket has said it rides lower and offers more versatility specially with the pouch pocket. This puts the knife and rid in the top survival category as well as ultimate bushcraft.
