ESEE, so many options, so little funds..

What do you mean 'comprehensive survival kit'? Mine only came with a Kydex sheath.

You might be talking about a version of an ESEE Survival Bag or something similar. I think the 6 just comes with a kydex sheath and the 5 comes with a kydex sheath and a metal belt attachment thing for vertical carry (that can be attached to the 6's kydex sheath).

The 5 is a bit shorter and thicker. The 6 would be a great all-around camp knife but the 5 would be a great knife if you needed to pry things open.....a sharpened prybar is what some people call it.

I definitely am talking about a survival bag version

I'm gonna buy the kit & the knife comes with it :D win win for me

I asked myself the same question & came across this thread earlier today

He pretty much sums it up. I've been looking at that kit for a few days now. I want to build myself a nice kit & this seems the most cost efficient as it comes with a knife I've been eying. I'm not one for small knives. I Just purchased a beautiful Khukuri handmade in nepal & that thing is 18 & 3/4" long beast. I love it. My knife addiction is going to have me purchasing ESEE's & h.i. Khukuri's :D

Let me know how that works out, Is all the gear in it quality stuff?

One thing I assure you, if says ESEE it IS quality stuff, I don't care what it is. Jeff and Mike are adamant about few things, but quality is always of the highest. That said I don't own one, but I wouldn't think twice buying one.

Thats what I thought, Can never be to careful though. Especially when its $217

I'm going with the 6 for my starter, I have plenty of small ones, I know everyone says start small but I say go big or go home!

IZULA!!!!!

+1

The Izula is a great way to try out an ESEE without having to chunk out a ton of money. Also these are SUPER little knives. You will carry and use them (or we will dispatch our ESEE assassins in the official ESEE cat suit with the ESEE waki to "deal with you.") As to the Izula or Izula II they are both awesome. The handle on the two really is marvelous though.

Not familiar with your area but if you need something bigger for your first knife I recommend you join the cult of FOUR. The ESEE-4 is my constant companion, with me every day. IMHO the 4 and the Izula will handle any knife chore. If you need more than you need an axe/hatchet or a machete. The only thing I can think that I would recommend more highly than the 4 for this position is possibly the Laser Strike Mk.II when it comes out.

God bless,
Adam

I purchased an ESEE4 first then the ESEE 5 next. This weekend we got an ESEE3 for my girlfriend as she said the Izula was to small to be comfortable for her hand. The 6 feels nice as well but the 5 is my favorite due to its weight but that can be a turn off to others.

If you want to start in the "less expensive" range, go with an Izula or stalk the exchange forum.

My first was a 5, then I got an Izula - the HEST pass-around thread hooked me into getting a HEST. I'm planning my next move after I get a few other affairs in order.

I have the 6 but honestly i find it abit too big to be manageable say if i had to skin game with it, i think the 4 is the best place to start, and it will be my next acquisition

Don't ever start a heroin with a huge dose. You'll kill your self.

IZULA!

My Reasoning: Besides overdosing you get to use it everyday. Play with it test it in all aspects. Can you walk around with the six? NO, you just end up petting it and whispering sweet nothings at it all week until you get to go out and play. Even if you are a guide or work outside the six won't let you get as much time in. Then go out and spend all your money on them.

Good one River Bear
I started witha HEST and Im gonna get a 4 next. I would get a 3 folder if it was out but I thing the 4 will suffice for now.
Great knives you'll love them
