I just ordered my first ESEE a few days ago (the 5) and it should be coming in the mail any day now.

Maybe I'm too young to have a knife but the second I saw the H.E.S.T. i knew i couldn't live without one.

After further research I found ESEE (at the time was still RAT Cutlery, which I guess also has now separated from DPx) and I've been saving up for over a year to finally buy myself the ESEE-5.

I have a kershaw folder that I have always carried around with me, and now I see the IZULA is supposed to come out in a folding version too. Any updates on that?

Anyway, I'm sorry if this is a waste of thread space. I'm just beyond psyched for my knife to come in the mail! Thanks to Jeff Randall and everyone else involved!

here it is!

Welcome!

How old are you? I had my first knife when I was about 10 years old. It was a little Buck folder, and my dad gave it to me. He had no idea what he was starting!

I'm 15, I've had the kershaw for too long to remember. I do remember loosing a knife at the airport once, though, because I forgot to take it out of my pocket and put it in my bag, the security guy took it and I'll admit, I shed a tear.

In my opinion, no one is to young to own a knife, only too stupid.

Good for you WolfTrot! I'm told you can't go wrong with ESEE and I'm going to buy one soon as well. As a young up and comer you'll have to learn, if you don't already know, to sharpen cause once you get that big old railroad track with a handle you'll want to sue the heck out of it and it'll need sharpened. Good for you! I was raised with a knife in my pocket and a machete in my hands when I was in the woods so I agree, you're never to young to start!

Welcome.

I got my first knife when I was 8. It was a Buck 112. I carried it in my pocket until I made it to the bus stop where I put it in my sock where it lived all day until I got back off the bus and it went back into my pocket.:D

It was a different world then where getting caught with a knife at school ended in a stern talking to by the principal and a parent having to come to the school to get the knife. (from experience...)

I'm 15 and own quite a few junk knives and some nice ones, but in the last year, I finally pulled the trigger on an RC-6. and man after i got that i couldn't resist the Izula. Probably my two favorite knives. Hoping to get an RC-4. I'm convinced you can't go wrong with these knives, they're some of the best!

I wish things were still like that today. What's happening to the world really sucks when I hear how great things were back in the days.

Except for when I went/go to school, I've had a knife in my pocket since I was 11.

Along with my ESEE-5 I ordered a Lanksy sharpening system. I've never used it, anyone here have any experience with it? From what I've heard its pretty good, although, you probably can't go wrong with your traditional sharpening stone and a good steady hand, eh?

Enjoy... I'm sure you will enjoy it even more since you saved-up for it yourself. My dad gave me my first knife (a two blade Swiss Army Knife) when I joined cub scouts at age 8. I still have that knife, but didn't really get interested in knives until a few years ago. I gave both of my sons a SAK or multi-tool when they turned 8 and joined cub scouts and have since given each an Izula. Now my daughters have let it be known that they would both like a pink Izula when they turn 8. Sure beats another Barbie or Zu Zu Pet.

A much different world. Now, it seems you're not even permitted to talk about knives at school. Earlier this school year we had a very concerned call from my son's elementary school because a teacher overheard him talking to a friend about wanting to "carve something with a knife." Really??? In a meeting with the principal and teacher we explained that our son owns knives, knows how to use a knife and views a knife as a tool, rather than a weapon or toy, and that using knives to carve sticks and make tools is something important that he and I do (and will continue to do) together. We assured them they need not worry if, in a fit of boredom or a moment of imaginative indulgence, he states that he'd rather be carving something (unless, of course, he identifies that something as a someone, in which case they can give us a call). Oh brother.

At my high school, bladeforums.com andESEEknives.com are both blocked, because they are viewed as sites that condone weapons...

Too young? No way brother.

When I was about 4 dad took an old junker folder and ground the edge flat and rounded the tip on the bench grinder. It was to teach me safe knife handling skills. He heard a scraping sound and looked out the window and I was down on my knees putting the edge back on using the sidewalk as a stone. Heck I had seen dad do it 100 times, wasn’t that hard. He told me that he would sharpen it for me and for me not to do that. :D

It was in our student handbook in high school that you can carry a folder so long as the blade was less than 3”. Our principal was from a large city Catholic school family (as opposed to our town of 3k) and saw a buddy of mine opening a package in the Ag shop with his knife. She went and got the “resource officer” to remove him. He reached in his wallet, pulled out a laminated copy of the 3” or under rule and told them both to go away. The class applauded. This was in early 2000s so not too long ago.

I agree, I've had knives longer than I can remember. My Dad was a butcher and taught me about knives very early. I've given them to my children when I thought they were ready and now I'm waiting for my grandchildren to get a bit older.

And back when I was in high school, almost evereyone carried knives. One day we went on a day long woods walk with our science teacher. I wore my Western bowie knife on my hip and the teacher only raised an eyebrow at it.

. . . It was a different world then . . .

Tell me about it, shotgunner! When I was in high school, kids used to bring their shotguns to school and put them in their lockers so they could go hunting as soon as school let out. We never had any shootings or incidents. Go figure.

As fo my, I carried a 4" balisong in my back pocket everyday -- and everyone knew it because you could see the outline worn into to my jeans. Again, never an incident.

We encourage Communists to block our web site! And that's what most school districts are nowadays...

15 too young? Definitely not. I was about 5-6 when I first got a SAK, and 7-8 when my dad passed me on a buck 110. Glad to see you saved up and bought a great knife. Welcome to the forums

WolfTrot, welcome to the forums. Glad to see you here. It's nice to see a youngster with some sense wanting to learn more about knives and tools. Again, welcome!

She's 8. Her name is Shyann. That's HER Izula. I'm her dad. Thanks again Mike. Nuff sed.
