Greetings All.
I was wondering if anyone could lend a hand? As Christmas is coming soon (or rather the time to convince the wife that I need something for Christmas is dwindling) what is the difference between the similar knives offered by ESEE and Ontario RAT? I know there's some history between the two companies but what are the differences in quality, warranty, etc.?
I did a search but couldn't come up with anything usefull.
Thanks.

Hi, the warranty is better with ESEE. Fit and finish is much better on ESEE and Rowens heat treat is very good quite a bit better than ontario's. The sheaths with the ESEE knives are much better and have a lot of flexibility with mounting and carrying options. The also have some really well made cordura backs and pouches available to add to the useability of the sheaths.

While I do not own a RAT by Ontario, I can speak highly of their heat treat (I do own the MKIII USN Knife). The MKIII holds a very good edge even under everything I put it through in the forest. I won't say what I put it through because "No pics, it didn't happen" would definitely be said. I'm not claiming Ontario's to be extraordinary, just good knives that hold up. I've handled an ESEE 5 before, it is a solid knife. From what I hear about ESEE I would say that they are superior. But if you were to buy an ESEE or an Ontario I don't really think you could go wrong.
