ESEE6 angles

Anybody know what the primary and secondary edge angles are on a stock ESEE 6?

I'm guessing about 5 degrees for the primary grind and about 34 degrees for the edge, but I don't have any calipers.

20 degrees per side for the edge = 40 degrees inclusive. Got the figures right from ESEE's Mike! My Wicked Edge Precision Sharpener makes it as sharp as anyone would care to have it and then some.
Here is my ESEE-6 hanging on my Christmas tree from Santa with a Honduran Rosewood Burl museum grade mod.

Here is my ESEE-6 with my Bark River STS-5 with a handle mod using prime Cocobolo wood. Two very fine knives.

Your estimates are pretty close. The primary could be measured pretty easily, but I bet you are good enough for a guestimate.

The edge grind is supposed to be 20 per side (40 inclusive) but they are done by hand I believe and variability happens. My 5 was somewhat variable between 35 and 45 inclusive depending on where I gauged it.

What are you doing that you need to know? Just curious. Many people will use stropping methods to maintain their ESEEs with fantastic results and over time the edge becomes convexed. When you sharpen this way it is easy to do at home or in the field with simple equipment, and the exact angle values become much less critical.

My guesses were based on some quick measurements. Assuming the absolute error is a half a millimeter, I estimate the primary grind to be between 4.2º and 5.1º. The edge I estimate is somewhere between 34º and 42º. I'm just trying to determine if my Sharpmaker is going to hit the apex on the first sharpening, though I haven't tried yet. If it's actually 40º it should hit, but I suspect the angle is a little less than 40º.

I've been batoning through wood for 5 months with my ESEE6 and have never sharpened it. It still slices paper with no tearing. Gotta love Rowan's 1095...

Well, I sharpened up the ESEE6 on a Spyderco Sharpmaker over the weekend using the 40º slots. I was able to confirm using a microscope that this put a nice micro edge into the original edge, so the original edge is definitely a couple degrees under 40º as suspected.
