Hey everyone, I want to buy an ESEE knife soon and i was just wondering if anyone here had some first hand experience with ESEE's and convex edges.
I like convex edges A LOT soo i was wondering if anyone knew if ESEE knives took a nice convex. No problems with breaking or anything.

So, anyone with some first hand experience? Also how long would it take to convex sayy an ESEE 4 by hand on a mouse pad and sandpaper?
Thanks guys

I did my 4 and it's gets hair whittling sharp in just a couple minutes and is an awesome all around knife now

They will take it just fine. Mine are V's but plenty of people convex theirs without problem.

Izula, sandpaper, and mousepad here.
My first attempt at any edge/bevel modification, pretty happy with the results so far...

These are all convexed.

I do it by hand on stones.

I sharpen on both forward and backward strokes and just don't worry about holding the angle perfect. Kinda stumbled upon the method after figuring out I suck at sharpening a normal V-ground edge on stones without some sort of jig.

Use a strop for maintaining most of the time but go back to stones for major sharpening.

Yeah they take a great convex, and they hold the edge very well. Apologies for the bad pics / low light

I used a file to break the shoulders on an Izula, then finished it out on a piece of emery cloth on top of a mouse pad. It's wicked sharp. Took about 10 minutes total.

I actually like my 5 with a convex more than V grind, takes me about 20 mins on sandpaper and leather to get it sharp again

My ESEE-5 is convexed...and stripped. My only ESEE tha has either treatment. Very very sharp...no sharper than factory mind you...by any significant margin anyway.
