Espada medium

I think I had the same problem with my large espada and figured out that the rattling was coming from the slot where you can attach the clip for left hand carrying, there is a little counter plate on the inside of the handle that rattles. If that's the case with your knife too you can fix it by putting screws in the empty slot, if you don't have extra ones maybe you can take one of the three that holds the clip without weakening it too much.

Either that or it's from the tiny pin holding the aluminum backspacer. It's located at the thiner part of the backspacer holding the lockbar spring together. It's necessary to prevent the deformation of the aluminum. It's not visible so you will need to open the knife up to fix it. A drop of grease into the holes that holds the pin should do the job.

I picked up one of the discontinued Medium G10 Espadas. They can still be found for between $50 and $60.

I think they skipped the thumb-plate opener on this model because it would be too similar to the 4-inch Talwar. The handle shapes are almost the same on them as it is.

As far as using it for utility use is concerned, it works very well because of the thin hollow grind. I used it for cutting up peppers. No problems at all. I really like the blade shape and size of it.

The only problem I have with it is that there is a rattle that I can't figure out. I don't think that it is the stop pin. It has to be from something on the inside. It will rattle if shaken when either open or closed though.

I may pick up one of the newer, saber-ground, CTS-XHP versions with the Coyote Tan or Olive Green handle scales later on and depending on if the prices come down.

I'm betting it's a washer. My brand new Hold Out II has the same rattle.
