Esquire: Mad love for the Huntsman 🇨🇭

The Huntsman was my SAK of choice for quite a few years. Nowadays I carry the Fieldmaster more often since I prefer the Phillips driver.

I still think it's one of the best all around SAKs.

The saw on the huntsman give you extreme value in an emergency out in the woods. unlike the dedicated so called bush crafter, who thinks you need a massive built knife for battening wood in an emergency to get at the dry wood inside, a saw lets you do that with far less expense of energy and no hammering. Just saw halfway through the wood, then step back and smack the piece of wood against a tree on the other side of the saw ut you made. The piece of kindling will then split along the grain and you have the wood halved just as good as if you'd done all that banging on your knife. You can even quarter the wood. with the saw.

That SAK saw is a great tool!

If I were to carry a 91mm SAK again, the Huntsman is a prime contender. I like the corkscrew for the ability to carry another tool, and I'd never waste my time carrying a SAK with the back mounted Phillips drive again. I was actually startled to find how easy a rusted screw can cause the liners of the SAK to before with a moderate twist. Ifi need Phillips, theres the can opener and if I need a bigger Phillips, then the inner corner of the cap lifter/flat screw driver will do well. No more back mounted Phillips drivers for me.

I love that we came to opposite conclusions. 😁 I carried models with corkscrews for most of my life, the small nested screwdriver came in handy for my glasses and Victorinox offers almost no models with back mounted Phillips in my country (I had to buy my Deluxe Tinker and Fieldmaster abroad). Wenger's importer did have more models with a back mounted Phillips and that's how I got into the brand. I do prefer in-line Phillips drivers when I can get them (especially those sweet locking Wenger ones).

Oh, and I've got a few SAKs with twisted corkscrews and damaged liners from overindulging in wine in my youth (I suspect that my uncorking technique probably suffered after the first few bottles of the night).
