Esquire magazine endorses carrying a pocketknife

If you need Esquire to tell you that it's a good idea to carry a pocketknife....

We obviously don't, but there are a lot of non-knife people out there that apparently do. It's nice to see positive coverage of something we take for granted in daily life, but is completely off the radar of others. Maybe we'll get some good word of mouth from this. Can't hurt at all, and it's better than a negative article.

I was told by a man wiser than me that a gentleman always carries a knife, a handkerchief, a watch and a writing utensil. Since this is a knife forum I've got that one covered in spades and I usually keep a bandanna on me too (make a great bandage.) I'm also a watch and pen nut so I usually have those covered too. I stick to automatic watches mostly because stem winders have gotten expensive and a medium ball point has always suited me, makes my signature look good. I never read Esquire unless it is in a waiting room somewhere but it's nice to know they are keeping up with the times.

Glad to see some postive press - did link the referenced website some interesting stuff there learned a few facts about Sir Richard Francis Burton

Taking a pocket knife out of the "weapon" category and portraying it as just another useful tool is a great idea, especially in this day and age of zero tolerance and mass hysteria.

I work in a school and you would be amazed by the knee-jerk reactions to knives. Actually most of you probaly wouldn't...
