esse 3 vs swamp warden vs scrapavore

The problem with Bussekin (Swamprat and Scrapyard) is you can't buy just one.

At least with ESEE there aren't too many models and not many new things coming out. Sure the bussekin is arguably superior, but can you afford to devote your income to getting the a never ending stream of amazing must-have knives? Ask yourself.

i asked and well, i will scrounge save and find a way to feed my soon to become addiction. besides if they are they are so arguably superior and such why not want them? most of my knives are users not really for collections.

ok, my question is SR-101 a stainless or carbon steel? i think its carbon but i want to make sure.

I was a bit disapointed w my scrapivore. You almost certainly need paracord wrapped round the handle cause the pry end digs into your hand is is really uncomfortable. Im guessing cord would cure it but was kinda hopin to keep it wrap free to show off more o that nice satin steel. The knife its self is really well made but would be much better compared to an izula instead of 3'' blades.

The Swamp Warden is my edc, and it is the best skeleton knife I have found IMO. I find it much more comfortable than the Scarpivore or Izula. I put some handles on the Scrapivore so it would fit my hand better. I had an Izula but sold it because it was not comfortable for me, I didn't like how my pinky finger rested in the hole in the handle, and it didn't matter if it was bare, wrapped, or with handles.

SR-101 is not stainless.

I have an Izula II and I am getting my Swamp Warden in the mail tomorrow (weeeee!). I will let you know what I think when I have them both in my hands.

SR101 is 52100 ball bearing steal with a proprietary heat-treat that makes it hold an edge like almost nothing else. It is non-stainless and has high carbon content but different from traditional "high carbon" steels like 1095.

It can rust, so care for it like you would 1095.

Here's some size comparisons, minus the Solution :o Sorry about that.

Izula 2
the wife's Izula
RC3
Swamp Warden
Skelly Warden

ok, thanks for the information on that.

I have an ESEE 3 and Vore LE with a Swamp Warden on the way.
The 3 is great for belt carry EDC but is not as easy to conceal as the others. Much to big for a necker. It's a GREAT user though and very easy to maintain the edge on a stone.
The Vore I LOVE but don't have a sheath yet. It is so thin that it slices VERY well and will be very easy to carry.
I can't speak for the Warden yet.
I have an ESEE Izula that I have been wearing "neck carry" for about two weeks and virtually forget about it. The Warden and Vore will be perfect for this or pocket carry.
I would add the Izula into your realm of possibilities for this size range.
Any of the three are are a great choice and you can't really go wrong.
I can now!!!
It arrived today and I am VERY happy with it!!!!
The handle has great ergo's and is very comfortable!!!
For the necker size I would recommend this as much as the others!!

i got the plan all set up, when the RMD is back in stock i order it. have a local sheathmaker do the sheath, by then i will have aprox 1/3 of the money needed for the solution left over.

Just checked the company store and they have RMDs in stock, a lot of color options too!

I would certainly go with anything from the Swamp......while I haven't handled a Scrapivore, I am sure the quality is top notch but have heard the "pry bar" on the end is suspect.......still cannot figure what you would "pry" with it anyway.......no leverage, tiny, and it is a knife.........I believe in the right tool for the job.

The Swamp Warden is a great blade...though I do not care for many "skeleton" knives........other than the Skeleton Key from Busse. I like that one for the slim profile and long blade. It just feels right compared to most skeleton knives. I would certainly recommend a paracord wrap on the Warden.

I also had the Izula and Rat 3.....they were great blades and the price point for used ones were really too good to pass up. They are fantastic, but I prefer the steel/quality/heat treat from the Swamp, it IS superior and while in my limited use of the ESEE knives I found myself consistently going back to Swamp Rat knives. In the end, I sold the ESEE and still fondle the Rats. But by all means the ESEE are GREAT knives BUT if Swamp Rat is within your price point.......go with it.

i now have placed my first order from swamp rat! i placed an order for the ratmandu in desert sage with black canvas handles. cant wait til i get it! let he busse/bussekin sickness begin! next up when i get the cash is the rodent solution.

I am meeting with Eric on Sunday to score some new rats! One of which will be a rodent solution. I will let you know what I think when I meet up with him and what I wind up with!

ok thanks! i would love to get a second opinion on the solution, and make sure to share what new rats you grabbed!

iw as torn between all 3 of these as well and ended up going for a 4th - rodent solution. should get it tomorrow, i like the shape/size much better. I want to get a 10" blade and piggyback it on there :P
