Recommendation? ESSE or Survive! or ...?

Why the hell can't you look up their debunked subforum!

I'm joking a bit.

They did get the boot from here for their antics. 3 plus years for a knife. I could go on, but I'd suggest you do the research if you care to know.
I absolutely know what you are talking about but many others might not. Especially the OP.

If you are chiming in, maybe add some actual detail, a link, etc...

The now closed survive subforum is the second result if you Google the company. I'd advise that if one can't figure out Google they shouldn't be around sharp things. :D

But seriously, here's a thread with lots of information: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/survive-knives-forum-should-be-closed.1601185/

For a lot of us, even if a knife is the bees knees, if the company that makes said knife is a shameful scam, owning the knife is not an option. Survive is in that category for many, to the point that their official presence here was revoked.

I was assuming that a 19+ year member with thousands of posts could sort it out pretty quickly. Your concern is noted.

Both knives would serve you well but as many have mentioned, the availability of SKs are virtually non-existent if ordering direct which I believe isn't even an option based on their over-extended backlog of orders. The 4.7 is basically a replacement of their 5.0 (w/o choil) with some slight mods to the blade and handle. SKs are very comfortable in the hand vs. the ESEEs unless you go with the HM series handle (sort of broom stick styled) or with the optional TKC scales that can be often found from other members or directly from TKC. Many have also mentioned other makes such as Blind Horse/Battle Horse/LT Wright, they make quite a few models in the size range you are looking for and with the 3v upgrade would run you a bit higher but still cheaper than most SK models. The only readily way to get a SK is in the sale forums but they will run at a premium or some sort of mark up from the original prices. I own most models of the ESEE lineup and they've never disappointed me, I probably prefer the 4 the best as its a nice compromise or the 6 when accompanied by the Izula for finer work.

OP, honestly, a ton of knives will do what you're generally describing. I have a Hultifors GK which, while shorter than what you want, is a great knife. Almost bullet proof and runs under $10. I snagged a Mora Orange Bushcraft for $22 two black Fridays ago. Again, it's a great knife. I've also had many ESEE knives and all were good knives. I lucked into a SK! GSO 4.1 years ago (a second) and love it. Many Cold Steel, ESEE, and Becker knives would likely work very well and be low priced enough that you wouldn't be concerned over using and abusing them. Unless you have your heart set on a specific blade, company, or steel, I would check out some of Becker models with their respectable 1095 CroVan. They're tough, cheap (sorta), have good handles, and have a solid warranty. I'm not up on their current products, but I'm sure one fits your needs. Later on, you may find you want certain things and can target those needs in a future purchase.
