Estate Sale find...

Yes, this one ;).

By the way: OFW means Otto Förster Witzhelden (near Solingen)

Haebbie

Thank you kindly for the explanation of OFW. You are all right.

I must visit the Berlin aquarium. I understand that it has the best fresh-water collection in the world.

Oregon, are you in Germany now? Or do you plan to travel there?
I only can agree with you: The Berlin aquarium is amazing.
May I ask how you conceive the idea to visit the aquarium?

Best,
Haebbie

Two words for you: Lump head (Steatocranus Casuarius), link to video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtWDDFIrgwM&feature=related

I've only heard good things about the Berlin aquarium and have visiting it on my bucket list. I've kept, bred, raised and sold many Congo River, Amazon River and other Cichlids (fresh-water fish). I enjoy seeing this hobby on a professional scale. When I was at the San Francisco aquarium I was encouraged by what I saw and want for more.

I wish I was in Berlin now so that I wouldn't have to gather up all of the wet leaves in my yard. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in Oregon's Willamette Valley (like living in a wet tissue), as usual. When I get there I will knock on your door and buy you a beer and bring you a Buck knife you don't already have.

Nice score. I had that NorMark knife way back when. If that is a real German made paratrooper knife you are a lucky man.

Oregon, Berlin is a nice town around the whole year, but your Wet Tissue Valley is closer to Idaho.
Start your travel to Berlin in Spokane and go over Post Falls. I'm sure you find what I like to have.
But, of corse, I take the beer and you are invited for the best Schnitzel you ever ate.

Herbert

Thanks crom, did you have the big one or the smaller one??? Looks like the German knife is real... I wish it was all mine... ITE ...

The US one is like new... Do you know anything else about it??? Thanks, ITE

Sorry for the late reply. It is a WW2 American (Colonial or Imperial made?) survival knife, put in the survival kits of American aircraft. It has a large blade a saw.

Thanks Van, the one we have has UNITED G.R. MICH. on the blade... Is that good??? Thanks again, ITE

Thanks Sitka, are you talking about the FG Gerber... It's a USA one that I'm thinking about keeping... I love that old school stuff... The other one with wood handles is made in China, I think, But it is a sweet one too... ITE

I will try and take more pics of it tomorrow... I can't do much on T-day....

I think maybe you thought I was commenting on the improved grip Gerber skinning folder. This is the one I was referring to,

Photo blows, just an insurance shot on file. I do not think these were made in China or Japan for that matter. I obtained mine at an estate sale. Everything there was from a time before Gerber went on the cheap. It is possible, I'll have to look again when I get home. I have not been able to find out anything about it yet.

On another note. I had a Colt licensed copy of your Barry Wood I bought for $5.00. Got a whole lot more when I flipped it. Wish it had been a real Wood.

Damn you got a VERY nice gravity knife there.... youll pull 500 on that EASILY. Very nice score there man.

I did think that you were talking about the other Gerber... On the one that I have like yours, mine has SAKAI/JAPAN on one side of the blade and Just Gerber on the other side... These are really nice knives made here or Japan... Maybe yours is made in the US... Let me know...

Thanks, ITE

Many of the Sakai & Seki stamped knives from Japan in that era are just as excellent quality as the US-made ones. I have a soft spot for the 1980s Japanese stuff. So sue me. ;)

I like mine too... so don't sue me... :tyrannosaurus: ...

"Thanks crom, did you have the big one or the smaller one??? Looks like the German knife is real... I wish it was all mine... ITE ... "

My Normark/EKA was like yours with the exposed lock release and mine had a lanyard hole that pivoted into the handle. The blade was about 3" maybe a little more IIRC, it was 20 years ago when I lost it. It was a super knife at the time and wish I still had it.

Ok, here are the other knives... They all need a little cleaning... No bucks, well there are 3 of them on the side but they are in Sleeves... ITE

Collection...
