Yesterday, I took a break from working in the yard and went up to see my friend at his BBQ shop. He showed me a box with three big sharpening stones in it that were in wooden boxes and in great condition. I said "Nice!". He then showed me a box filled with a Lansky sharpening system, bench mounting attachment, and nearly every Lansky stone they make. Most were still sealed in their original packaging. I said " Really Nice!!". He told me he paid $10 for both boxes at an estate sale just around the corner that morning. He said it was an old woodworker who had died and they were getting rid of all the tools and stuff in the shop. I went ,post haste, and found that the tools were mostly gone. I looked around and saw a 4 foot Craftsman construction level in great shape, (it was sitting on a big Snap On tool box filled with misc. tools). I asked what the price for the level was and the guy said, "How about $40 for the box and the level?". After nearly tearing out my back pocket getting my wallet out,I had to get another fellow there to help me carry the 200 pound tool box to my vehicle.
Do you think I did OK?

Gotta love estate sales when the deceased is a craftsman. All kinds of great tools and tool caring equipment. Thats how I got my honing stones. 3 for $5, plus an old tool box full of files.

You did AWESOME!!!

pics or we cant start the "I hate Stacy" replies...

Nothing beats being in the right place at the right time. Or being fair.

My uncle got a whole garage full of tools one time because he made an honest offer on a Shop Smith and the attachments he wanted.

I believe I've even heard Stacy cite the adage, it didn't happened if there are no photos!

And I'm with Mete, what's in the box (um, the one that doesn't really exist yet)???

No Stacy you got ripped off. But just to make it easier on you. I will give you your money back and haul them off for ya.:D And next time you feel like wasting money call me and I will come remove whatever is tempting you.

Nice score!!!

I've been working on the shop move all day Saturday and today (except when I was buying tools at estate sales). I will try and take some photos tomorrow. The box had some Snap On sockets and extensions. Then there were two Lufkin tape measures, wrenches, vise grips, C-clamps,taps,screws,tie-wraps,screw drivers,a hammer, and lots of misc.stuff. I used the level today to check the levelness of the wood shop after it was moved (dead level).

you can get that level pretty cheap on craigslist, but it probably cost more than $40 new.
