Esteem Grinder Mods

OK. Finally got the grinder mounted on the pedestal. Brett made the install of the VFD so simple that a reasonably smart chimpanzee could hook it up.
I have around 10" of vertical adjustment in the pedestal which allows me to grind from standing or seating, and also places the disc grinder at perfect height horizontally.
The 1/4" steel plate I used for the mount flexes more than I thought it would where it extends past the yoke in the rear (to support the vfd). I,ll want to stiffen that up. I need to install a reverse switch in the VFD as well.
Now to figure out whether I want to integrate a tooling rack off of the right side, or keep the tools separately. I'll need to store five tools.
I need to think what kind of tool rest platforms I'll want as well. A few that come to mind are a longer rest for when the platen is horizontal, a rest for the 8" wheel, a rest for the small wheel attachment, and perhaps(?) one for the 14" wheel when horizontal. I haven't figured out how to incorporate a rest for the disc grinder yet.

And down

Pretty slick setup. Looks like a barber chair base. Do you think the belt will slip when using the disc?

PT Doc,
I haven't ground on the disc yet, but the same thought crossed my mind. If it slips I'll go with a different material belt.

Looks like you need more tool rest to the left in horizontal mode and more tool rest to the right in vertical mode. Super handy to have adjustable height.

My friend Rod Neilsen will be super pleased when I tell him to go and see this application. He is a most inventive guy as you are !!! He just fixed me up with a gravity water drip system for my Neilsen magnetic disc that can be moved over to my belt grinder and set to go in about 30 seconds. I think your adaptation is an excellent one. Frank

Thanks Frank. PT Doc, I did a test grind on the disc today.
Keep in mind I'm running it with only half a belt right now due to an alignment issue
( my fab error) with the drive wheel. Using 180 grit paper I leaned into it with spa bar of A2
And the belt did not slip at all.

Wow Jonathan that turned out great. That is the best grinder base I have seen yet. You done good bro . As for slipping the belt thats not gonna happen with spring tension those springs will provide. I went through many springs that did not cut it in testing. I ended up having those springs made here locally. Again very nice Jonathan
