I have finally seen these in a store today. I was wondering if any of you guys have the 16" and how it's been working out for you. (It's the steel handle/rubber grip model) I'm thinking it's a little heavy for backpacking , but fine as a camp axe. I've had no probs with the smaller sportsmans model as far as steel and grind go , but they do need a good grinding to start off with as I remember.
Thanks for any feed back.:)

I have one. Excellent axe. Got a bit of weight to it, like you said, but quality is great for the money. The grind on mine was pretty rough, but that's no big deal to me. I highly recommend it.

Thanks CRR. I don't see them in these parts often , so I'm going to snag one.
They're around $50. Not bad , considering GB are more than twice that here.
I have a 13" Wetts for the backpack , so It'll mostly be a camp axe. :)

Well, today they had only 4 left, so I grabbed one. Soon as I got home , went to the woodpile and did some minor splitting. This is a great size (16") and can easily be swung with one hand or choked up with 2 for bigger stuff. Edge wasn't too bad for an off the shelfer.I think I could backpack it on the outside of my pack for short forays in the woods but not on longer trips. It'll make a great canoeing axe for overnighters next summer
Sorry for no pics, wife has camera unfortunately:grumpy:

A friend of mine has a estwing axe. I think its the 26" tho. Man that thing is tough. It lives in the toolbox of his truck. Hes used it as a shovel, a prybar, a hammer and who knows what else. It looks like heck at this point but its still going string. I wouldnt hesitate a second to buy one.

Glad to see you got one! My favorite axe. Very close to indestructable. I have no problems with strapping it to the side of my pack, if the trip warrants carrying it.

The Estwing axe is a superb performer for the money. A little bit of judicious honing and you have an awesome performer at half the cost of the competitors.
