I'm looking into picking up one of these, anyone have any experience with them. Is the axe blade of similar quality to the normal Estwing Hatchets. My plan is to have one of these in the closet for emergencies so I can move one of my hawks or Fiskars to the Car.

They are just as good as all the other Estwings. I used to have one which I modified into a tomahawk.

they are pretty good, alot of people gripe about them but it is mostly over the looks of a steel haft and a rubber handle. but they work. pretty indestructible.

i love both of my estwing axes- i reprofiled the edge to thin it out and then put a razor edge on it- but yes they are indestructible.

my estwing sportsman's axe has lost in chopping comparisons to many of my blades in stock configuration. a 40 grit zirconia belt on the sander and a little time brought that hatchet to a shaving, newsprint push cutting, wood chip throwing monster.

i have to recommend the leather sportsman over the carpenter's model for looks and the curved grip.
