I haven't been happy with my makers mark etch. I make my own stencils but there seems to be a little bleed thru around the mark. I like the look of the stamp. Has anybody else made the switch. Stamp machines run around $1700. My etching kit cost around $250.

My stamp was 75$ and works awesome with a hammer. You can always line it back up and hit it until your happy with the results

I stamp some and etch others, I prefer the look of a stamp on historical or more traditional-styled knives, and insist on hot stamping. My maker's mark stamp is home-made, which I think is very appropriate for historical pieces and makes it exclusively mine. More modern type knives I etch with both my name and maker's mark.
