Etcher Problems

I got all the parts and assembled the etcher from plans on Chris Crawford's site. I keep blowing fuses. I have checked doubled checked and triple checked. I think I could wire it without looking at the directions now. It is wired according to the plans. It still blows the fuse. I also found an old thread and tried a 1.5 amp fuse. This fuse blows also. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am not so good with a meter. I probably should have just bought an etcher, but have a limited knifemaking budget.

After the power comes out of the transformer, how many wires are there (2 yellow, one black?). Is the black hooked up or is it not used?

Check your plans/wiring with the diagram as shown on the Blue Lightning stencil site.

Yes there are 2 yellow and 1 black. The black is hooked up according to the plans.

I looked at the diagram but think I may have to get someone to help me, or study it a good bit. Electricity is not my thing I guess.

Thanks bjansen

I tested one of my etchers, and it was less than 1/4 amp draw. Wired properly you shouldn't ever blow a fuse. Any chance you could take a picture of the wiring and post it? That would help a lot in trying to figure it out.

Thanks zaph1, I will try to take a picture when I get home tonight. I don't know if you will be able to tell much as there are wires going everywhere inside the box but I will try. I also don't think it shoule blow. I am wondering if I don't have a bad transformer.

Count I just looked at the diagram, I have a bit of a hard time understanding it, but after studying it for a while, mine is different than that diagram. I am also usind all the wires from the transformer by the instructions I have. This diagram does not use the black wire from it. I will see what I can do when I get home. I have a knack for turning simple 2 hour projects into 2 days. But think of all the experience I get, LOL.

I had the same problem with the one I built from CC's plans. I think the problem was the contact from the positive lead to the etch pad. I took it apart and resoldered it and it hasn't blown a fuse since. Just something else for you to take a look at.

Thanks a Lot for the help guys. Between the instructions and the diagram and making sure all connections were good, I got it going.

Now I have to get in touch with Ernie.

Thanks Again
