It would not be surprising if there are metallurgists amongst the knifemaking community, and certainly they would have snuck a few minutes on the metallograph to study their test blade breaks!
Perhaps this dialogue would encourage them to share their data and observations...
Understanding what creates a high performance blade and learning to get the most from the best steel is definitely the most gratifying aspect of knifemaking to me. I appreciate the opportunity to learn through these forums and the publication of articles in the knife journals.
